Derann released Goldfinger????? [Eek!]

There's an optical super 8 of Thunderball. I think it's slightly abridged by a few minutes.

There is are opticals of Thunderball,
and From Russia With Love. I believe
that Thuderball runs about two hours
and Russia runs about 90 minutes.

These were from what I had learned
to be former airline prints.

I do not know if Derann still offers
the full length Thunderball in magnetic sound?
It may have some minor pre printed splices.

Derann also offered Goldfinger and I believe
that Ken films once offered Dr. No.

There's a stunning optical print of "Dr. NO" available too, it was made to celebrate Bond's 20th Aniversary, it looked to me when I've had a print in that it had be re-mastered too! One to look out for!

CHC also released the opening scenes of "Goldeneye" and "Living Daylights". They are about to release "You only live twice" (complete feature).

There was talk of an extract from the full feature of You Only Live Twice, but this was shelved due to the other two Bond extracts Living Daylights & Goldeneye not selling too well. Don't know why CHC is not making the sales on these as I'd thought they were ideal releases, in scope, great quality, affordable and supplied in nice picture boxes.A doddle to re-record in stereo as there are no cuts.

Jan -- yes, Derann did Goldfinger, they also did Thunderball (Scope) as well.. I had both at one point ...

Another attempt to compile a list of all Bond movies available on Super 8:

-Dr. No (1962): Optical feature
-From Russia With Love (1963): German print full-length in scope + optical feature
-Goldfinger (1964): Derann full-length + Italian print
-Thunderball (1965): Derann full-length in scope + optical feature
-You Only Live Twice (1967): Optical feature (full-length prints in scope were announced by Kempski + CEC)
-Casino Royale (1967): Piccolo 400' (well - not a "typical" Bond movie...)
-On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969): German print full-length in scope
-Diamonds Are Forever (1971): German print full-length in scope + optical feature
-The Spy Who Loved Me (1977): Optical feature
-Moonraker (1979): Optical feature
-For Your Eyes Only (1981): Optical feature
-Never Say Never Again (1983): Derann 2x600' in scope
-The Living Daylights (1987): Optical feature in Spanish + CEC pre-title sequence in scope

Hi Eberhard,

I think you have two mistakes in your list:

From Russia With Love (1963): German print full-length in scope + optical feature

I think the german full length print is not in scope as the film in original was also not in CS (Thunderball was the first bondfilm in CS).

The Spy Who Loved Me (1977): Optical feature

From this film was also a german full length feature in Scope available. I owned a print two years ago, but the quality was not so good, so the film was sold.

Greetings
Ralf

Hi,

the webpage http://www.superotto.it/super8.htm is listing Italian versions of "Goldfinger" and "Live and let die", an Italian Version of "You Only Live Twice" is listed here:
http://xoomer.alice.it/mysuper8/lungometraggi.htm
("You Only Live Twice" seems to be the only film that was publicly sold in Italy, though.)

Hmm...

English: "You expect me to talk?" - "Hahaha! No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!"

Italian: "lo invitare a comunicare?" - "Hahaha! No, il sig. Bond, li invitare a morire!"

I think I'll pass on the Italian print. [Big Grin]

Wow Quite a list did OHMSS and Goldeneye ever come out in full feature.

I have a promo reel of You only live twice it is about 400. Print is a little soft and pink but nice.

I have no idea who released it

Joerg, all itanlian Bond prints were Pirate's copies. "You only live twice" and "Live and let die" are slightly abridged version while Goldfinger (first print I rent at a local store when I was 15) and "For your eyes only" (the second film I rent [Big Grin] ) are complete.
I think also Dr. No has been printed in italian, but I've never seen a copy of it.

I had the Derann S8 feature print of "Goldfinger" in magnetic sound but sold it to buy a movie poster from 1937.

I have the S8 scope print of "Thunderball" but I was under the impression it is a German print (Not Derann) that I had dubbed into english.

I also have the abridged airline print of "Thunderball" in Super 8 optical (flat) and the airline print of "From Russia With Love" in Super 8 optical flat. I don't believe any of the Super 8 airline prints were struck in scope. Just flat. I used to have the Super 8 optical airline print of "Dr. No"

I have a Super 8 airline print of "Live & Let Die" with a Spanish soundtrack and was told it also was struck in Super 8 with an english soundtrack. It's fun to hear Sir Roger speaking in Spanish.

In 16mm I have an odd reel from "Octopussy" that is from an airline print(also flat)on LPP low fade. The best action reel.

I have reels 2 through 7 of "Thunderball" in 35mm IB Technicolor (scope). Have been looking for a reel one since 1983.

I forgot! I also have a Super 8 optical airline print of "Diamond's Are Forever".

Anyone have the Red Fox Super 8 007 trailers? Sadly they are now turning reddish.

Chester, the CEC name should be changed to CHC as when I first read the list I got the impression people thought Cinema Entertainment Company had put out James Bond features. That was Gary Watson's company whom Barry Attwood used to work for and indeed bought out to start his own 'Independent 8'.

Strangely Chester is now looking extremely like Mike Peckham from my machine. Methinks the photos and user id's have got mixed up.

John,

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I can't believe the lengths Chester went to in his desire to look like Mike.
Actually, I've mentioned this to Brad and the world will be right again shortly.

Jan, if you're interested, I see Derann have just listed a mint copy of "Goldfinger" on their latest used film list. £299.00.

Posted by Jan Bister (Member # 332) on August 02, 2006, 11:07 PM:

Interested?? Rob, my heart skipped two beats when I saw GOLDFINGER on the list. [Big Grin] And thanks for letting me know, you're the third person to do so - unfortunately this time around it's simply too expensive [Frown] And did you know the movie was on the previous sales list as well? Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks it's a tad bit overpriced - although I certainly see the value of a "mint Kodak pre-stripe print." Which only makes it all the more painful to have to let it go, arrgh! [Mad]

But my day will come... I know my day will come.

[Cool]

£299 for "Goldfinger" is not at all unreasonable... In 16mm you'd pay a lot more than that for a mint print...

Seems to me that if you want a film badly enough, the price, as long as it's not way out of line, shouldn't really be an issue...

Posted by Jan Bister (Member # 332) on August 03, 2006, 09:49 AM:

You're kind of right there - guess it's just I simply have to be careful with money these days! However I didn't necessarily mean to say the price was unreasonable.

Another thing is that the exchange rate from GBP to USD really sucks right now. Earlier this year it seemed much better.

Even now I'm struggling with myself, and credit cards are all too tempting... [Eek!]

Posted by Steven Sigel (Member # 21) on August 03, 2006, 10:35 AM:

Hmm...

I guess many years of film collecting has taught me that if something high on my want list comes up for sale -- grab it. You never know when another one will come around (if ever)...

I've made that mistake a couple of times (not buying something) and I've always regretted it...

As for being able to afford it -- that's a general problem with any hobby -- the good stuff is always going to be expensive, and you have to budget for it...

Posted by Jan Bister (Member # 332) on August 03, 2006, 03:12 PM:

I see your point. (And I regret not going for Goldfinger when Derann had a print of it for 139 pounds!) [Smile]

I just got the message that "Goldfinger" has been sold. Jan, did you...?

Posted by Jan Bister (Member # 332) on August 04, 2006, 11:28 AM:

Nope, wasn't me... I wish! [Frown]

To make it worse we've just had some more unexpected bills come in (insurance and medical). Such is life...

The picture quality on the Super Eight optical airline prints is far superior to the package movie versions. From what I understand Cubby Broccoli supervised the airline prints and they used the finest pre-print since they were authorized by Eon Productions. I was told they were to be destroyed after use by the airlines but Ray Courts was able to rescue a few for me.

What type of stock
are these films on?

Hi,

there was also a nice flick available, written by Richard Maibaum (writer of some James Bond screenplays).

S+H+E: Security Hazards Expert (1980)

Hi Michael:

I think I read on the Thunderball leader that the print was either struck in 1983 or 1985. But, I don't think the stock is LPP "low fade" yet the color is good. It might very well be unmarked LPP and I have assumed the prints are on regular eastman stock all along.

Not familiar with the Maibaum film.

Best, Tom

Posted by Michael De Angelis (Member # 91) on August 05, 2006, 09:08 PM:

Tom,

If I'm correct in thinking this,
LPP & Agfa type film stock is shiny
on both the base and emulsion sides
of the film.

Next time you have an opportunity
to check your Bond flicks that you
received from Ray Courts, it may be
revealing to find that you
certainly have a prize in more
ways than one. Mostly due to the
release dates which you
had mentioned: 1983-1985

Michael

Hi Michael:

Yes,indeed the prints are glossy on both sides and unmarked. They must be low fade. I am very happy about this! Thank's for the information!!!
