Hi
I have asked a seller on Ebay about the shipping cost for a 400 feet film to Sweden, the seller is in UK.
He said that the shipping would be 8,50 GBP
Is that the normal shipping cost for a 400 feet reel?
Cheers
Hans

Hi,
shipping from the UK to Europe is indeed rather expensive (compared to the prices the other way round):
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=400036&mediaId=400347
e.g. airmail up to 700g will be £6.67 for a letter and £4.19 for a small parcel.
When the shipper adds "airsure", he has to add £4.20:

An insurance for up to £500 is another £1.50...
... in other words: If he sends the film as a "small parcel", £8.50 is too much, but with those other options it's only what the post office charges...

Ask him to send it airmail small packet and ask for a proof of posting that covers it for free should be about £4 or so. Its a little more usually to the states. I think some seller`s like to cover their ebay and paypal fees in the postage cost.
Best Mark.

Hi
Thank you.
The sellers postage to UK is 4 GBP so he is trying to get some extra money via postage.
I will pass on this one it was only a reel of "The escape from Athena" and I guess that i will fin another one in the future.
I just bought my first film here in Sweden and it was The guns of Navarone (400 feet) and I thought it was pretty funny to look at it and therefore I am looking at diffeent 400 feet "classics"
Cheers

Yes that sound high. Generally a feature on 4 x 600ft reels will go by Small Packet Air Mail for between about £7 - 9 GBP.
If it goes over 2KG then the rate flies up but then what I have done is to split it into two packages to keep the packages below 2KG.
In fact this works for sending packages to the US etc as well

Don’t forget guys that the Royal Mail has just introduced a new pricing structure for all mail in the UK. Now we have different prices based on not only weight but the actual size of the package as well.
I suppose we can all thank Ebay for this as the Post Office has trebled it’s work load over the last couple of years.
Another case of screwing Joe Public.

Craig, I checked the prices out on the Royal Mail web iste and the prices havent changed for Parcels and overseas post. If anything they should have reduced the parcel prices as they are so high for overseas
It looks like these charges only apply to inland post and just letters and small packets.

UK's shipping price is always the issue...
Why they don't have something like Media Mail in the USA which is unbelievable!!!
