Hello everybody,

Here’s a post just to introduce myself. After many frequent visits to the 8mm forum I thought it was about time to have myself registered. My wife an I have recently started collecting 8mm films, so we’re new on the subject, but willing to learn.
It started with the find of an Eumig Mark8 projector and some old family super8 reels about half a year ago. The projector needed some cleaning, and thus we stumbled on to this forum wile looking for information on the net. As usual (I know now) the drive wheels needed a good cleansing, as well as the gate. Spinning like a kitten now, except for some problems with the film feed. I’ll come back on that in another post. Although we like the short silent reels (preferably about men in rubber suits knocking over cardboard buildings) we developed an apatite for the longer sound films. But what projector to use…
A friend of ours has always been very satisfied about his Eumig 938, the sound particularly. It was via the forum (again) that we found all the information needed to make our decision. The only thing that held us back in actually purchasing the projector was the expected price, and the risk of getting “the cat in the sack”, in other words; a screeching, overheated, much-work-needed apparatus. We couldn’t believe our luck when I stumbled across an advertisement where an Eumig 938 was offered for € 90,- ! This looked like too good a price to not take the risk of the earlier mentioned cat. So I went (to Belgium), checked it, bought it, and used it with an old slice of super8 sound. The sound was good immediately. The drive-mechanism however is noisy, and the screening tends to slow down significantly during use. I no now (again via the forum) that all these problems are relatively easy to come by. All it needs is probably a good cleansing, greasing and tuning. I will put some pictures on the forum of both the Mark8 and the 938, as well as a picture of myself (to end anonymity) as soon as I find out how…

That is amazing... a 938 for 90 euros? Well done [Smile]
So you must be Dalida's husband... I think this is the first time ever we have a wife/husband team on the forum. As they tend to say around here, welcome! [Cool]

You will find plenty of knowlegde here among the members. I cant begin to think how many years worth of knowledge their is in total among the membership but it must be extremely large.

Oskar

Welcome! And yes, how great to have a husband and wife team on the forum!

It's funny, many of us are actually pleased that our partners don't look at the forum because they would learn the terrible truth about all our expensive film purchases! [Big Grin]

Enjoy...

Mike [Cool]

Thanks for the warm welcome: much appreciated. [Smile]

Funny to hear that a couple registration is a novum.
There are however a view difficulties that will need some sorting out, like, how to prevent double posting. [Big Grin]

Then again, to answer Mikes reply, being involved together means that we can combine efforts. And as for posting on forums, Dalida is more of a yacker then I am.

Indeed Jan, we were amazed ourselves with the asked prise of the 938. I had reckoned it would cost us at least 2 maybe three hundred euro’s to get a good projector. The person I got it from sold the thing on behalf of his sister. He himself was more involved in professional video equipment. His prime goal was to ensure that whoever bought the projector would know something about it, and would appreciate its characteristics. Thats no luck, thats LUCK!

LOL [Big Grin] But the good part is that if we see a very expensive film (and our film tasts are much alike) then we can combine our savings....and I don't have to feel guilty or need to explain why I'm spending so much money [Big Grin]

uhm Oskar a Yacker is someone who "Talks incessantly and tiresomely" ...thank you for that compliment [Roll Eyes] [Razz] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Oskar,

It's my turn to welcome you here! I'm thrilled to see you enjoy those men in rubber suits knocking over cardboard buildings. I see you have "Monster From a Prehistoric Planet". After that 8 course dinner I'm sure you'll soon be looking for Ken Films' other classics such as "Yongary, Monster From The Deep", "Reptilicus", "Varan", "Rodan", "Voyage Into Space", "Frankenstein Conquers The World", "Konga", "Destroy All Monsters", two "Ghidrah" titles and of course, "Godzilla vs The Thing".

Douglas,

I have at least seen pieces of some of the movies that you mentioned: some are really great! Godzilla vs the Thing for instance is actually a verry big production! [Eek!]

There's actually a sort of sub-genre developing now where modern filmmakers produce movies just like these oldies just for the love of it.
Japanese filmmaker Miike Takashi for instance made "Zebramen". A view renegade American filmmakers did the amazingly overacted "lost Skeleton of Cadavra". [Big Grin]

You can find the trailers on IMDB.
Thay both make real good popcorn evenings. [Big Grin]

Hi Oskar,

Welcome to the forum.
I already "met" Dalida and it's great to have you both on the forum. And it's even better you are both real film fans.
Like I already told Dalida, I love to help you out when needed.

Oskar,

Welcome aboard.
Congratulations on
the Eumig purchase.

Hopefully there will
not only be a 'his' and 'hers'
machine but also an 'ours.'

As they say in Casablanca:
I think this is the
beginning of a beautiful
friendship.

Thank you Michael for the warm welcome!

we will take care of not bringing "his and her" issues to the forum [Big Grin]

Just a minute...what is it hun? No, if it is melting than it has to be YOUR film [Roll Eyes]
