Hi there,I would like to know if there is such a spool.I know that the spools would take about 75-80 minutes of super8 film. That's about 1500 feet, but the reels are called 1600ft.The spool i require
is for take up.Does any other member know where i could get one.Andy.

Andrew, they are called supaspools and were made in the UK. Made out of aluminium I found they tended to warp and then scrape against the spool arms of the GS1200....yuck.
I have some superb blue plastic spools which were sold in the US and I think they were made by Tayloreels. Superb and a I wish I could get more of them.
Yes your right none of them really hold a true 1600ft of film unless it's the thinner poly stocks.
Keep an eye on ebay and the dealers lists.
Kev.

Dynareels weren't around long but they were the best I ever saw.

Andy
I have a few of these and might be able to find a half reasonable one. They do tend to go out of true and need a bit of tlc sometimes to bring round.

Andy, If it's an Auto take-up 1600ft your after I dont think any were made by anyone. All the 1600ft 8mm spools I have ever seen are the manual type.

Johns right I managed to get one Dynareel before they disapeared and they were far superior to any other reel available.

OKAY,so 1600ft take up spools ain't availble. The promblem i am having is with LITTLE MERMAID.It fits the supspool;but after therading the upper loop is lost. The take up reel is also a supspool.I stop the machine and have to put the leader into the small slot.On projecting that's when the upper loop is lost.I'm i doing something wrong.I would like to know how other fellow members
got around this problem?.Cheers Andy.

Not normally a problem. I dont loose the loop on my GS if I use the supaspools. Is that front spool free running ok? there shouldnt be so much back tensions that you loose the loop.

I had a similar problem once with a ST1200HD where the fixing screw in the centre of the top sprocket gear was just a bit loose - as you tend to start the reel turning manually when feeding the leader into the machine it was OK with autothreading, but when restarted the drag weight of a fully loaded 1600ft Supaspool was enough to cause the sprocket to slip & lose the top loop. As with your machine Andy my ST1200HD was fine when using smaller reels of film so it is well worth checking the screw is tight first.

Yes Kevin, good point. I had forgotten about that possibility.

Can't help with the spool I'm afraid.
Out of interest, just wondered which projector had the largest official spool capacity and how big was it?

I suppose these were Fumeo and Beaulieu with 2400ft capacity spools.
