I can't upload ANY of the manuals in the section. I have ADOBE 6.0 so I don't think that's the problem.

Hi,

I'm rather confused by your posting:

upload = you want to transfer a manual from your computer into the server's manual-section

download = you want to transfer a manual from the server's manual-section onto your computer

Adobe's Acrobat Reader is a tool to display PDF-files, not to transfer them into a direction.

But you might refer to the plugin that comes with the Acrobat Reader that'll enable most browsers to download and display a pdf-file directly?! (If you do have problems with this plugin, do a right-click onto the manual and select "save as...", wait for the download to be ended, then open the file with the Acrobat Reader from your harddisk.)

Confused,
Jörg

I cannot download it from the site. I get the first page and then it stops and I can't even advance to the next page. I have Adobe reader 6.0 so I don't understand why I can't even read it.

I have downloaded many manuals from the forum and have had no real issues at all.

I would suggest that you update your version of Adobe Reader. Use this link: Adobe Reader Version 6 is quite old. Its now up to version 8.

Mark, The manuals section is there on your left in the menu on the side of your screen.

If you cant see that menu for some strange reason then here is the link: Manuals

Mark is not alone as I have found that you can view this forum without those seperate menu's on the left. On mine the 8mm forum page fills the entire screen.

What Browser are you guys using? Its there in Firefox, Explorer and Safari on my Mac and PC.
I have just noticed however that if you run you mouse over the left side of the screen you can then drag the window over to change the size of the menu bar so it may be possible for you guys to drag the edge to reveal the Menu.

Hi,

just a few remarks:
a) Adobe's Acrobat Reader 6.x is rather old. So if there's a newer version for your system, please install it. (Unfortunately the newer versions aren't available for WinNT4.0, Win98, ...)
b) Keep in mind that the manuals are rather large. Hence it might take several minutes(!) before it's downloaded completely EVEN WHEN you're using DSL or similar fast access-methods. (With a 56k-modem or ISDN, it might even take 30min or more!)
c) The Acrobat-Reader-Files can be "compressed". If this is the case, the plug-in might only be able to display the first page until the second page is completely downloaded or even until the complete file is downloaded. In other words: It's quite normal for most PDFs that the first page shows up "immediately" while it "takes ages" before the next page(s) are accessible.
d) Depending on your browser, ... it might happen that the file is still downloading even though the browser looks like nothing is happening.
e) There are several cases where the Adobe-plug-in can't work correctly due to incorrect settings with firewalls, the IE's "security"-settings, ... . So if this page is the only one causing this problem, you'll have to check your settings.

If nothing else helps:
DON'T DO A LEFT-CLICK (with your mouse) ONTO THE LINK TO A MANUAL, BUT A RIGHT CLICK AND SELECT "SAVE AS...", ... . When your problem still occurs with that pdf-file:
Please tell us which file is causing the problem - either the file is too new to work with Acrobat Reader 6 or the file might even be damaged on the server.

Here's a link to longer help text for problems with the Acrobat Reader plug-in:
http://www.bnl.gov/itd/webapps/pdf_help.asp
My "save as"-hint is described in more details as "Solution 2 - Download PDF to hard drive".

Hope this helps,
Jörg

The manuals only require Acrobat 6 or newer to view.

Is it possible your internet connection is pretty slow and when you try to advance forward the manual is still downloading and only has the first couple of pages downloaded by that point? Try starting a manual download and walk away from the computer for awhile and see if that solves your problem. Another way is to right click the link when you download and save it to your hard drive. Most internet browsers have a "progress" popup window that will appear showing you how much of the manual has been downloaded to that point.

Let me know if that helps.
