I just took delivery of an Ampro Futurist Standard 8 silent projector in mint condition - I mean mint - as a spare/standby for my Elmo E-80.

As with the Elmo, it takes the identical lamp, a 750-watt A1/9.

However, the illumination on the screen is a delicate hue of pink, compared with the creamy white of all my other projectors, 16mm Ampro Stylist Major included.

When I took a closer look, the condenser lens is definitely pink.

Has anyone come across anything like this before? It doesn't seem to make much difference to the projected image though.

Thanks,

Yes David,I have.
It is due to faulty glass in manufacture, exascerbated in use by the heat from the lamp.
Rare indeed as they should be colourless or slightly green.
The only pinkish glass you would find is in dichroic glass to reduce heat transmission-but that projects as white.
Confusing innit!!

Thanks Barry,

The only sensible answer I've had. I have a colleague looking out for a suitable replacement, as he is currently breaking/modifying andgenerally salvaging parts from various 8mm projectors. Here's hoping!
