I finally saw a copy of "Ben Hur scope 1X400ft" on ebay, and I contacted the seller asking if he'll post to america, and he said no.

What's so freakin hard about shipping to america? I ship to the U.K. all the time! Yeah, it's a little more effort, as you have to get a shipping qoute, but on the plus side, you have even more potential buyers bringing up the selling price of your item!!

As far as I'm concerned, it's just laziness on the part of the seller!

GRRRR! I hate to miss out on a ityem I want because a seller cannot as of this time, post to america. What is it? Is he an illegal?

Osi this can happen to everyone, unfortunatelly, as not only practical reasons contribute to a sellers' decision...

By the way, the tragic thing we in Greece are dealing with is the fact that everything sent from Usa, regardless of its price, gets a 100% or more tax that is estimated and imposed by public employees who haven't even heard the word "school" and this amount isn't negotiable.

I once won a mint Elmo projector for 100usd including postage and the tax here was 115...The pre-mentioned employees took it for a lcd projector as noted on the receipt...

Hi Osi. With regards to your "missing out" on the Ben-Hur- Scope 400ft, you have my sympathies. However there can be other factors to consider - the seller may be ill and "housebound" at the time and have to rely on others to post items out for him. :
I know that it is not because he's lazy or "illegal". He's as British as me,as hard working as me, in fact it is me! [Mad]

I did apologise in my reply to you and had the film not sold (by the way, there was already a bid on it at that time!) I would have offered the film to you, with an explanation and an offer to post at a later date.
I know that I have restricted my sales area but I had no idea when I posted the items I was going to be ill!
Again my apologies for your dissapointment re Ben-Hur, but as the quote from JAWS goes "come down here and shovel some of this s**t!". Time for my little pink pill again [Frown]

Wow Keith, my apologies if I offended. It is a frustration however. I hope you got a good price for it, as, if I could have bid on it, I would have bid it up to 25.00 pounds, (that was my goal, any higher than 25 pounds and I couldn't afford it), as it is a title that I've really been looking for.

Oh well, there's always the chance that the buyer might back out, eh?

By the way, if you have been ill, hope to hear your in better health in the future.

I see many, many sellers on ebay who will NOT ship outside of the United States rather than fill out customs forms so it works both ways. Most of my purchases have been in posters rather than film but I suspect the ratio of non-shippers is the same.

Hi Osi, No offence taken, I just wanted to put my side of the story. I'm a bit of a grump at the moment [Frown]

The film did sell for it's opening bid of £9.99 and has been paid for. My congratulations to the winning bidder because he has a bargain.
The film was sold because I have picked up a copy of the 3 X 400ft Ben Hur - Scope from Paul Foster. He also supplied me with the 400ft digest, some time ago and it has been sold at a loss [Frown]

I was surprised the bidding was not more forthcoming as there were quite a few people "watching" the item.
Thank you kindly for your good wishes re my health. I am on the mend now and look forward to threading up the old Elmo again for a film show. It's a bit like an addiction, don't you think?
Anyway nighty, night for now, Nursey is comming to tuck me in [Wink]

Keith, are you saying you don't post world wide on eBay is because you may become ill and the person who goes to the Post Office for you when you are ill can't fill out a custom's form. I keep a large supply of Postal forms at home with a set of scales and calculate International postage on line at the Postal Service. [Smile]

Osi, when I ask an eBay seller a question I sign it with my first and last name in case it is someone from the forum. [Smile]

I am saying that I put the films on E-bay, “and then became ill”.
Unfortunately I don’t have any scales or Customs forms, at the moment and being virtually bedridden and also having a disabled wife, it would be a little impractical anyway, at the moment. I have a neighbour who has taken items to the Post Office for me and I don’t feel that I should impose any further, when he is doing me a favour.
You obviously post abroad frequently, whereas this is my first "venture" on E-Bay, as a seller.
I have posted films to the U.S. in the past – two to your good self, in fact, so ordinarily it’s not a problem
My mistake was, not the fact of “NOT posting worldwide” but under the circumstances, I should have removed the items from sale, but having bids on some, made it impractical.

Over the past seven days I have had numerous requests from other sellers worldwide to “post” out to them, all of who received a polite reply, declining to do so, without any bother. One chap in France, actually bid on one of the films, despite the “post within UK only” and I reluctantly asked him to retract his bid, which he did,again, without any bother.

It’s not a case of “I worry about what people think about me”, far from it. I know that under normal circumstances I give 100% to whatever I say or do. When Osi raised the issue, I just felt that the point needed to be made that you “Don’t judge the book by the cover, until you’ve read it”.

P.S. Osi, there were 14 "watchers", over 7 days, for BEN_HUR". only one bid, apart from your interest, of course. Unbelievable!!!!

P.P.S. Yes Robert I agree with you, I've had sellers in other countries refuse "export" also. As Osi says, it is frustrating. However that is their choice, whatever their circumstances, and should be respected.

Hi Dan, Yes that is correct. To be honest, this is, as I've already said, my first venture onto E-Bay as a seller.
Had I have known that, because of circumstances,beyond my control, I would end up in the "Spanish Inquisition" by fellow forum members, I would not have bothered. I did not have to justify my actions to Osi on the Forum, but chose to do so, "to set the record straight". As stated prior, I too have been in the position of being refused a sale because the seller chose not to "export" from USA to the UK. It is a fact of life that will continue to happen, to all, whatever they may be buying or selling. At the end of the day there is no written law that dictates that all E-bay sellers will sell worldwide, or that all E-Bay buyers will purchase, worldwide. Many thanks for your "Get Well" wishes.
