Movie Maker Aug 1970

The following comments are taken from Movie Maker.

Watching wondrous light output from souped-up projectors at Widex-70, the Widescreen Association's big day. Harold Bailey who is demonstrating his specially converted SM-8. This is the machine that gave such a wonderful 15 ft. wide picture at the Ten Best NFT shows. In the foreground is the converted Mark S which was used for the standard 8mm films. Both machines use a 24v.250w. lamp, with extra cooling from a blower fitted beneath the projector.

In the projection box of the National Film Theatre, Harold Bailey operates his souped up Bolex SM8, used for projecting the one Super8 winner.

Some idea of the immensity of Bailey's task is conveyed by this view of the auditorium and the 15 foot screen which was used for both standard and super 8 films.
Everyone agreed that it was the brightest 8mm picture yet seen at the NFT.

Its interesting to note that the Bolex SM8 was only ever fitted with a 12v 100w lamp and to modify it for 250w would have been very impressive, the SM8 still is a really nice super8 projector,and can take 800ft reels using "Bolex reels only".
