I was absolutely astounded by this ebay item! Unfortunately, I do not have the ability to supply a link, but the number is :

160112092164

It is an auction for two 5 inch reel, (so approximately ten minutes each) 8mm Blackhawk releases. They are B/W and are :

Titanic (no doubt a short documentary of it)
Puss and Boots (early Disney animated short, 1920's)

The amazing thing is that it has 8 bids on it and it is up to 160.00 dollars!! I've never seen such a thing! I got these very two same films for ten dollars a year ago on ebay.

My question is: WHO THE HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE, AND HOW DO I GET THEM TO BID ON MY STUFF?!!

Now up to $230!!

My guess is that the bids are really for the Titanic item - and they are not from 8mm collectors, probably from people who cannot even project films.

Die-hard Titanic collectors/dealers will bid on absolutely ANYTHING connected with the ship. I collect 78 rpm records and about 15 years ago a friend of mine suggested I put a disc of two songs about the disaster in the London Titanic auction (I think these are held every year around the anniversary date). Although it's an original 1912 disc, sold to raise funds for the Titanic Relief Fund, it's still very common (I had several copies) and, at least then, you could not even get £1 for it at a record fair. At the auction, it sold for a whopping £110 (GBP) - and that was 15 years ago! (Someone else's copy in the auction - with a big piece missing from the disc, making it virtually unplayable - sold for about £40!)

I almost hope the winner is really pissed off, as I'm betting that, as you said, they are not film collectors and will be unable to play it.

I sold 200-ft, super 8 SILENT film containing film clips of the Beatles's first trip to America. (I got it cheap when Blackhawk started liquidating their stock.)It fetched $40 from a guy in Belgium. He later asked me about buying a projector, so, yes, some of these people are after anything.
I have a super 8 SOUND print of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, so that should really do well.
