As I know John is holding a special screening for the BFCC in October for the 30th anniversary of his death. The various releases made by the various companies around in the late 70s early 80s Derann/Ken/Viacom/Red Fox to name a few.

We were lucky to have loads of full-length features from the Viacom vaults. Now does anyone know who made the Viacom prints as some of the Ken cut down releases where Viacom. Was it Ken films or Viacom or vica versa?

Now in relation to fade unfortunately most of all the release made now suffer with fade as most of them where either printed on dreaded Eastman or Kodak SP. Now did we have any that escape the printing cycle of the late 70s early 80s that thankfully printed on more stable stock either LPP or Agfa, Fuji stock?

In relation to print quality which titles had the best in picture quality, cut downs, full-length features, and the TV shows that Red fox brought out?

I have been told that the full length features from Derann where of lower pre-print quality. Why was this!?! As the two features in question (GI Blues & Blue Hawaii) were sold at the same time as there American counter parts, faired pretty badly when seen both together.

I have a feature length print of 'Blue Hawaii' and although it has faded a little, it is still a really nice sharp print with plenty of color. I would imagine that, when new, this print would have been stunning. See my review:

On the other hand, my Ken films 400 ft digest of Blue Hawaii is a very soft print. I also have digests of 'Girls,Girls, Girls', Fun in Acopulco, and GI Blues, and they have all faded but were all very sharp prints. When I was in the UK last October, Keith Wilton showed me an extract from 'Paradise, Hawaiin Style' and it was like watching 35mm!

Hi Robert,

I have one reel of Elvis "Paradise Hawaiian Style" (Digst 400" as picture below) which was printed on Eastman .

You can click here about the discussion and to see some serial screen shots in judging whether this reel sharp and unfaded.

But at least these are 2 screen shots I have made:

And other reel from Ken (but not mine) which is also good:

This reel was discussed here.
