I have a Snub Pollard film from Mountain Films called Mama Rescues Snub. I love its full colour illustrated box cover. I have never been able to find a Mountain Films catalogue to see if they released any other Snub Pollard films. Does anyone know if they did and if so what titles?

I'm pretty sure that the Snub Pollard films released by Mountain on 8mm were Chuckleheads editions of two-reelers he made in the late 1920s for the Weiss Bros.

This one certainly is, as it's among the many Chuckleheads TV episodes you'll find listed here:

http://www.kitparker.com/search2.php?what=Chuckle%20Heads&where=series

Mountain issued many of these Chuckleheads editions, which no doubt fitted in with their determination to give short measure. Mountain's one-reelers could be as short as 100ft,
but in the case of Chuckleheads that was probably the length of the TV episodes.

The Chuckleheads series probably had the best print quality of Mountain's releases which could be extraordinarily sloppy; I recall their abridgement of Chaplin's THE CURE in which all the actors were decapitated by the upper frameline. Mountain also loved to re-title everything, so Laurel & Hardy's YOU'RE DARN TOOTIN' became CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANTS DOWN, which made it sound like one of the British soft porn comedies of the 70s!

The Weiss Bros. material seems to survive in superb quality, as seen in the recent WEISS-O-RAMA DVD set (including four Pollards) in which the films are nearly all from pristine 35mm copies.

Thanks Jonathan,

Yes it is from the Snub Pollard Comedies Weiss Bros Artclass period and the print is very high quality. I have many of these on films from other distributors, but love the coloured box art that Mountain produced.

Anyone have the titles that Snub appeared in for Mountain Films? This way I can at least search for them.
