Hello,

Just a few questions. How do you tell the difference between 16mm rewinds and Super 8mm?

Odd looking splicer / rewind reel set in the link above. I thought about bidding, but I just don't know enough about the item. Anyone have some information they can throw my way (before the auction ends)?

hi Jeremy, I wouldn't go for it...if you're into super 8mm hold off for ELMO rewinds, an ELMO (or similar) editor, and a CIRO/GUILLOTINE splicer. Just my opinion [Smile]

It certainly looks like 16mm, although the pics do not really show the spindles.

Most standard (regular) 8 spools will fit, and by using plastic adapters you could fit Super 8 also.

The difference between Super 8 and standard 8 spools is the size of the spindle used and the size of the locating hole. Super 8 is considerably larger than standard 8.

So, give that eBay item (and similar) a miss. Look out for a Super 8 editor which will have rewind arms attached. They usually fold in for storage.

The Minette Editors are also one of the brightest and sharpest. Pretty rare though. I was lucky to get one recently.
