Yeah, no kidding. I was perusing ebay and saw a set of three training films called, "The Mary Kay Beauty Show" on Super 8.

Now, I'm not one for Mary Kay, I LOVE making fun of Mary Kay, but I was so tickled by the very fact that Mary Kay actually put out Super 8, (with the overly painted Mary Kay in the film as well!) That I had to buy em.

Well I bought em!

They look like they may very well be on L.P.P. as they are from 1983, and according to the images (with the auction, sorry I don't know how to cut and paste photo's), they color is pristine, also hinting at L.P.P..

They are no doubt ridiculous, but I kind of want to see what potential female stars of the future are on these films. That would be interesting!

Another interesting aspect is the use of both mag tracks on the films. According to the auction, track one is in English, while track 2 is in Spanish. That sounds rather forward thinking on the part of Mary Kay.

Hey, this ought to be lots of fun with Mary Kay speaking in Spanish!

Hi Osi,
Forgive my ignorance, but who is Mary Kay? [Confused]

The pink Cadillac brigade is going to get you, Mal!

Mary Kay is a "legendary" seller of make-up for women. When you become a power seller, you get your own pink cadillac, (and a pink AK47, haha!). They are like AVON sellers, and they often are seen in back alleys, switchblades bared, fighting over make-up turf!

Well, the last parts untrue, but the first part, is!

Hey Osi...watch out...my wife is a Mary Kay consultant!

FYI...I just sold one those films here on the forum a while back. It was a Mary Kay produced training film from the 80's...a real time capsule. While obviously dated by the clothes and hairstyles...it had high production values and the film stock has definitely held up. Not sure what it was printed on but no signs of fading. Honestly..I was surprised at how fast it sold here on the forum. I originally bought it on ebay for my wife to see. Anyhoo..it was fun to see...but time to pass it on....

Hey...who said "who is Mary Kay?" She is actually a legend in the business world for motivating and boosting self confidence of women...many of whom are making extremely big bucks!!!

[Cool]

Yeah I follow this auction too, but I forget the link.

I think Dan took the picture exactly from that very auction. It has very good colors indeed.

The think make me surprise is the seller took the picture from the editor/viewer, but it resulted a good image like Dan's mail above.

I think, next time we are going to list items, just use that editor/viewer, instead of putting on the projectors which will create more hassles. And editor/viewer has also pause/still function, hasn't it? so we can stop at a particular scene we have without any flicking images.

Can you (or Osi can you ask) guess what sort of editor/viewer he was using?

cheers,

I can't tell just by looking at the projected image, but it doesn't appear to be one of those ones that have that screen that has, for lack of a better term, the ridging, in order to, I guess, allow for a brighter picture.
