Just picked up an Elmo 912S, and I was under the impression it could handle 8mm size reels, but it appears to only handle the larger super 8.

Now it could be I am missing some caps that would slip over the spindles to allow the smaller reel hole to be used.

Can anyone tell me if this unit was design for the smaller reels. I have the owners manual and it does not mention it, but does say it handles both 8 and super 8.

Steve,

The Elmo 912S is a Super 8mm sound editor. The silent Elmo 912 is a dual gauge editor.

The manual mentions Single 8 film being handled by the machine-this is also referring to a Super 8 variety?

Can someone recommend where parts maybe obtained for a 912 unit. The right side manual crank assembly has a sheared, very small screw that holds the the crank assembly to the gears I need to fix.

Regards,
Steve

Steve,

Single 8 and super 8 film are to all intents and purposes the same film at projection stage. The difference is in the cartridge type that the films are spooled in for camera use.

Regular or Standard 8 film has larger sprocket holes and a smaller picture area than super / single 8 films and your 912s wont handle it.

The 912 however is a dual guage machine and will handle both formats.
