Very cool indeed! It's apparently a hand crank setup that plays both super and regular 8. Not sure how bright it would be, it uses an LED light source run off of 3 AA batteries - but still very cool! More info and pictures here

It looks like it'll take up to a 200ft reel?

From the image that appears to be projected in the second thread offered on this series of posts (thank you for that), it isn't too dark.

You know, the nifty thing about this, is that, if it DOES sell well, it could lead to other new projector product from Japan, at least?

Hi all,

FYI, the today LED light is very bright.

I have a chinese lighter with only LED lights installed and using two AAA bateries. It is already bright enough to give an emergency light in a 3m square room. The baterries can last for hours!!!

Come on chaps, look through the latest issue of 'smallformat' and you'll see the review of this 'toy' in there. It's great that someone has produced this but it's not serious, it's a toy and will scratch any films put through it to bvggery within no time at all.

If I recall from 'smallformat' the projector is only 6 inches tall.

That really is cool.

Of course, I wouldn't put valuable package or home movies in there. It would be nice to use for older, already-scratched silent movies, like "The Deadly Mantis", or old cartoons.

Or, a great gift idea-

Shoot a 50 foot roll of black and white film of family or friends, or the kids. Process it and give it to them with the projector. That would make a nice nostalgic gift, and would personalize it as well.

It does seem to be over-priced, considering its plastic and hand-cranked. I wonder if the high price has anything to do with the high exchange rate.

I was thinking how cool a toy for the grandson, some cheap disney 200 footers cut down to 50ft and away he goes. The LED's will keep mum happy as well as no chance of burning his little fingers on. I would have loved this when i was a kid.

Chris, you would be much better off getting your grandson a Pathe Ace and a few 30 or 60 ft 9.5mm films, as opposed to this piece of junk. The ACE is a real projector and is really well engineered despite its simple design. It puts out a really sharp picture on a 24 ins silver screen. And those 9.5mm Popeye's are far superior print quality than the 8mm ones. There must be a lot of ACE's around in the UK and you can probably pick one up for about 30 pounds. My Grandson loves cranking the 9.5mm Pathe Baby which, like his grandad, he finds endlesly fascinating.

I already have this projector. It is a very cool gadjet and everybody who has see it, they just love it. It can "play" both super 8mm and 8mm, up tp 50 feet only.It turns by hand and it has a led light for the projection. To see the film you have to be very close to the wall or screen (about 30 cm).You can change between s8 and 8 any time you want. The seller is A+, trust with great comms. Ok it is not chip but it is great and I LOVE IT! Cute little thing.

yes i did notice the other "paper" projector. I had seen it before but I was not inerested about it. I am trying to stay in the super 8mm only. I can not afford to "play" with other formats.

I made up one of the "reflective" projectors.Clever,but it is still strongly reminiscent of those plastic toys one got in a cereal packet.The prices for these things are outrageous.Follow Paul's advice! [Smile]

Yeah,

I realised these were just 'toys' but projectors all the same, and to me all movie projectors hold a little magic in them [Wink]

as opposed to soulless digital projectors.

My DP just hangs there like a cold empty shell! [Eek!]
