As Christmas is upon us what will you be showing this festive season. Shorts and features. Now what would you say is the most requested movie to be shown especially at Christmas time on Super 8. Could it be James Bond or a musical or something completely different? [Smile]

You see folks, brothers think alike!

The Little Match Girl
Disney's Christmas
The Snowman
Disney's Prince and the Pauper
The Small One
The Christmas Carol (Sim)

Actually, it's a two day venture, these days!

Don't forget "Pluto's Christmas Tree."

That's part of the "A Walt Disney Christmas".

I've often thought about going to Derann and getting all four of these cartoons in the complete versions ...

Toy Tinkers
Santa Claus's Workshop
The Night Before Christmas
Pluto's Christmas Tree ...

... taking the just the intro to "Disney Christmas, and making a nice full Christmas spectacular. Money's in the way right now, but it's certianly do-able!

On 16mm I have Disney's "Santa's Toys."

The most popular over the years would have to be "A Walt Disney Christmas" I have had this print since new almost 30 years [Roll Eyes] its the film my daughter has asked for again this year, other really good ones I will run are "Three Little Orphans" from 1935, T/J Night Before Christmas, The Snowman and for a more modern touch The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper.

Osi I would highly recommend both the Santa's Workshop and The Night Before Christmas 1933, those Derann prints I bought years ago are of excellent quality.

I agree Graham,

I've never went wrong with Derann. I bought a print of "Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarves" from Derann, and really was startled by the quality of the print overall and, when it comes to negative, they will rarely release anything that has a poor neg.

But then, they know that this quality is crucial. Years ago during Super 8's heyday, companies like Niles ect. could release truly abyssmal film prints, because people would lay out the money just to have a print of a cherished film, but these days, with prices what they are, they know darn well that quality is everything.

Getting back to Christmas, Disney, from the earliest time, knew the impact of color content in their films, even in the psycological use of color, (as in "The Flying Mouse", where the backgrounds lend a lot of credence to the flying mouses growing predicament).

With Santas workshop especially, (being only the third or fourth color release) Disney's staff really made the best of it.

Th Silly Symphony shorts would hit thier high point with "The Old Mill" later in 1937.

You watch those early Christmas cartoons, and they must have been a glory to see on the big screen, as True Technicolor was still a rarity.

One of my other yearly favorites is "The Little Match Girl"
(1937, Columbia). It's really a miracle of a cartoon for, if you look at Columbia's other cartoons of the time, this one was leaps and bounds ahead of anything they were producing at the time and thankfully, this was re-issued, either by CHC, Derann or some other company, on L.p.p. film stock, and is a wonderful but sad cartoon for the holidays.
