I have the Agfa cement splicers, the type that bevels each edge of the film. Last I used them, many years ago, I thought it was a great idea since it would remove the stripe and made a "flatter" splice. I found that the splices weren't very durable. With the added stress going through the sound head of my Fairchild Sound 8 projector, the splices would often fall apart.

The B&H/Triad/M-H 8-16 hot splicer makes a much better splice but at a considerably higher cost.

The Agfa F8S automatic is a really good tape splicer it will cut and join your film in seconds, had one since the 70s however the tape does roll over your balance track which makes it more suitable for Mono than stereo, it makes a good splice though that will last forever. The tape is Agfa type 0813 also the Hama 3756 works as well.

Graham.
