I bought an Atlas Warner (Paul Plus Co also mentioned on the box) for £4. It uses a FAF 650w lamp and is unbelievably bright; I could literally light up the whole street and have just tried it in the back garden! It is brighter than any cine flood or stage light I've ever seen. Anyone had one of these? Or know where spare FAF 650w lamps can be found?

....and what do you use them for?

Hello,

Clusters of PAR-lamps have been popular in cinematography since the 1970s as a lighter alternative to the much bulkier (back then Brutes or nowadays) large HMI lights. They“re useful for punching light through a window or for balancing sunlight outdoors. People still use them although today there are many alternative fixtures, so it“s a matter of preference.
For images of them in action, check out photos from Kubricks Barry Lyndon where they were used on location.

Cheers,
Lars

Ahhh.........sorry, I thought Simon was referring to a projector lamp.
Obviously, these lamps are for use in filming, right??
