Here we go again! I had to replace the rear auto thread release microswitch on my GS1200 Version 2 today. One thing I have found out is that testing these switches with an ohmeter or continuity meter means nothing. When I took the old switch out and tested it, it was making contact just fine. Replacing it with a new switch totally solved the auto thread release problem, which now snaps back very sharply and without hesitation. This is not the first time I have seen these switches behave this way,so I conclude that somehow these switches lose their ability to carry sufficient current to the release solenoid, even though they are apparently making contact. Very strange!

That sounds like a mechanical vs electrical issue. Perhaps the switch was not 'fully' engaging due to wear, especially if the electrical contacts are still functioning properly.
