Hi,

Do you like DUAL 8 sound projectors? How do you think about them? What to you like or dislike?

I really never care much for them. There are some very knowledgeable individuals here whose opinion I respect. I’d like to know more about these projectors.

Speaking as someone who is in the market for one (or at least will be when he can get more than about 7p saved to afford one) I can say that the simple reason I want one is to be able to do standard 8 sound and I think you'll find that this is the reason now that most people go for them. Certainly the advice seems to be get one, set it up for standard 8 sound and use a separate super8 projector. And good advice it is too!

I've had very very good luck with Eumig 810D's. Usually do leave them Standard mode, but have tried super 8 with them...no problem.

I agree with Mikael. My Eumig Mark S 802 is used strictly in the Standard 8mm mode.

Eumig 824..... Good solid machine,David, with excellent illumination, and very good sound frequency response considering its year. Twin track with clever superimposing and sound recording manipulation using an electromechanical control system. Main hate is thhe speed change (moving roller on disc system) which cannot be easily moved during play. Clever Reg 8/Super 8 threading system to allow for sound advance difference.
Mine is modified with the Craven Syncrodek system; I used it to control speed manually during video transfers.
Have never used it on Reg 8 sound; trying to find time to run a Walton copy of "The Glass Mountain" I acquired a while ago.

I found the 810D to be solid.
I also have the 822D. Very good,
but the construction does not seem
to appear as beefy with the internal

Is it only me, but my only wish is that the treble control would
not blow out - leaving mostly bass.

These machines produce
the familiar "Humig humm."

Not bad, but there are
ways to get around that issue.

Thanks Martin and Michael. I'm just wondering if there's a better Eumig machine out there than my Mark S for running Standard 8 sound films.

As an earlier thread of mine has shown, I have modified the Mark S to take 800ft reels, which works brilliantly (although I say it myself). My main reason for choosing the Mark S, was that it's a dedicated Standard 8 sound machine, and I have always been, rightly or wrongly, a bit skeptical of dual gauge projectors. I did have an 810D HQS which I sold, and am now wondering if I did the right thing. My main concern was that although you can change the sprockets and the gate for the different formats, you can't change the claw, and I can't help wondering if this could have any detrimental effects on the film perforations.

The rubber drive disc on the Mark S is now beginning to show signs of wear and I can forsee problems in the not-too-distant future. Do all Eumigs have this disc drive arrangement?

So, this is really a call for all Eumig enthusiasts to offer the benefit of their experience. My affair with Eumig is extremely limited.
