Ugo, I really like it a lot, really gives some pizaz to the GS1200. But how did you manage to mask off the lettering for the paint operation, and did you spray paint or electro deposit the paint?
Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on September 15, 2009, 11:19 PM:
Yes Ugo, you are crazy, certifiably crazy ...
Just like the rest of us!
Posted by Ugo Grassi (Member # 139) on September 16, 2009, 02:00 AM:
I used an airbrush. To save the lettering I covered them with grease, by a very thin brush. After four/five hours from the painting (the paint becomes totally dry after 24 hours) I removed the paint on the lettering by a toothpick.
It's a very hard job, that needs a big lot of patience!!

You should start with a James Cameron film festival, because most of his films have a blueish tint.

It's interesting to see how manufacturers have favoured different colors for projectors over the years. In the 1920's and 30's most projectors had that black hammercrackle finish, then in the 40's and 50's metallic bronze was all the rage, then in the 60's and 70's silver and greys and greens came into vogue, finally reverting back to black in the 80's.
Ugo's GS1200 with the bright blue finish looks like a 2010 version of the GS!

I had the idea to repaint the machine when I started the totally checkup. This projector is for a friend, so I proposed to him the new painting. He liked the idea, so the first step was to find the right color. To achieve that metal blue I mixed two different colors. So that blue is a customized color.
Here some pics of the job

May I suggest screening "Le Grand Bleu" (Luc Besson).
Too obvious?
Cheers

Ugo, that looks amazing!
You should set up business re-spraying Beaulieus as the paint literally drops off them!
Posted by Graham Sinden (Member # 431) on September 17, 2009, 06:54 AM:
Fantastic job you did with that masking. Looks just like Elmo sprayed it that colour originally.
