Hey everyone Ive been away from the board for years. Recently Ive been checking in doing some reading and glad to see the hobby still thriving. Last night I dusted of my Fumeo 9119 and played a short. The sound was a little static ( I need to clean the pots )
but the image was great. I miss the small footprint the hobby brings as I also collect 35mm.
Even with todays Blue Ray the best in HD there is something magical about film I just cannot give up.
I no longer have a collection of films so I will be starting over but I will be selective on what I purchase. Are new titles still being struck or like 16mm are the same titles recycling.
I would think super8 would have one up on 16mm with this one.
Anyway looking forward to partisipating again. Have fun.

Hi Alan, nice to see you about and on here again.

The lure of real film, and faddling on etc, what can you do, its magic in its own way.

I love 16mm but 8mm has great fun and charm going for it.

Hope you get some nice bits and really enjoy creeping back in to the hobby.

Best Mark.

Hi Mark how have you been. I still have "Link" I bought from you in 16mm with the famous Elisabeth Shue bath scene. Never could part with that one:)
Curious if some of the titles are still avail out of Germany. If so and if someone could email me a list Id be grateful.

Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum or welcome back!

Yep, new Super 8 prints are still being struck. Derann's prints are to die for; truly comparable to 16MM, and that is no joke.
You'll find on the "for sale or trade" section, at the top, nearly all the links to go to those who either sell new or used prints. May I suggest Barry Attwood at Independent 8 in the UK as a excellent seller of used Super 8. No bad prints from that great gentleman.

Also, Steve Osbourne at "The Reel Image" in america, still sells brand new Super 8 prints as well as the used and he is always relaible, as well as extremely generous.

Like you, I returned to Super 8 after, (in my case) a 15 year hiatus. This time around, even when done collecting, the collection will not be sold, except for occasional titles.
There is really nothing like projecting a brand spanking new print!

A very warm welcome back Alan! Yes, we are still all here (or most of us anyway!). Do you still have your GS1200?
Since you were last here, many of the super 8mm collectors have now invested in digital projectors, not to replace super 8mm projection, but to supplement it. In my case I have found that Blu Ray and DVD projection can happily co-exist with film projection, indeed the wonderful extra features material now available in digital format seems to just add to the enjoyment of film projection. And of course, as you know, there is nothing quite like setting up and running 'reel' film on some superbly engineered piece of film equipment.
The forum membership is now approaching 2000, so there does not seem to be any loss of interest in film projection. Derann and CHC in the UK are still printing shorts, featurettes, and trailers on super 8mm and there is a huge used super 8mm film market out there.
As a respected moderator of the AV Science forum, we would welcome your inputs here on digital projection topics, which we usually post in the 'General Yak' section to separate it from film topics. You will find no animosity towards digital video here - that has long gone by the wayside.
