I'm planning on doing a 8MM/DVD/PC crossover show on both the 25th and 26th of december (25th at my family, 26th at my fiancees place) but I haven't sorted out the exact list of films yet.

Main feature will probably be "Home Alone" with some cartoons and trailers aswell.

Hey, this topic is almost to be lost.
I donīt have Super 8 prints that fit in to a christhmas show but I want show the perfect Christhmas show on 35mm all in Technicolor.
I want screen the Disney Cartoons:
Silly Symphony: Cookie Carneval and Night before Christhmas and as the Feature:
White Christhmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye or maybe The Court Jester with Danny Kaye, Iīm not sure which is better, I think the Kids like more the Court Jester.

My mother is now 84 and lives alone in her house; I'll be spending Christmas with her.

I am thinking of bringing my ST1200 up between Xmas and New Year to run some of the old family films (her mother, other long-gone relatives) and to add my newly acquired print of "That's Dancing" as a festive conclusion as she too loves the 'golden years' of Hollywood.

Claus.

To start a very short B/W extract from a longer cartoon called 'Pluto's Christmas Tree'. Then Laurel and Hardy 'Big Business' (for those that don't know that's the one where they try to sell Christmas trees and end up pulling a house apart piece by piece). Then the main feature- my wonderful recently-acquired 16mm print of 'The Snowman'. Roll on December 23rd!

I'll show both my 16mm and 8mm 'Snowman' ['cos the 8mm has the song] (and probably the 1941 8mm version I got from Perrys as well) and then just whatever takes my fancy - but mainly 'The Dresser' 3 or 4 times as I'm showing it at Group 9.5 St. Gabriel's on 9 Jan - and if you take the mickey as much as I do, it is a VERY good idea to get the show right!
Cheers, David E

Nice topic, Jeroen!
Uhm... It will be a hard choice. But here's what I have in my mind:

E.T. for sure (25th December).

And for the Eve? About the 'classics' we all have (I'm referring to Disney's) in our collection, the programme will probably be: THE SMALL ONE, MICKEY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL, SANTA'S WORKSHOP, THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, PLUTO'S CHRISTMAS TREE.
And then THE SNOWMAN, T&J NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, MADAGASCAR PENGUINS IN A CHRISTMAS CAPER.

On 26th it will probably be show time with OUR GANG FOLLIES OF 1938, L'ALBERO DI NATALE (L'ARBRE DE NOEL - 1969 - by Terence Young) or LOVE STORY.

It will depends on the audience!

My 6-year old daughter has a real love for the 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol" and Disney's "The Small One". "Carol" is in glorious Super 8 and "Small One" is 16mm.

I expect to be too drunk to show anything [Big Grin]

Graham, now you've made me wonder. I too have the 8mm Derann print and a 16mm print of the Snowman and I never noticed a difference so I guess tomorrow night i need to run them both

Ahhh, Claus, did you get your print from Dan? He's had some great stuff... seems like I'm always late, though.

Does your mom live in the states?

AHH, GIAN!!! E.T. seriously? I'd sell a kidney for a print of that!

[Big Grin] Definitely yes, Greg. I will post some screen shots as usual [Big Grin] .

I know at least two editions of this movie exist. An American (that's the one I own in my collection: good print on Eastman LPP) and a German one on acetate.
About this second print you should contact Kevin Faulkner. I'm quite sure he had both of them, so he would probably be in a position to give you detailed information. The German one could be still available, somewhere, but I'm not so sure about it. And anyway I heard it is not as good as the American one is (which is absolutely one of the rarest movie I have in my collection).

Hope you will find a copy, before or later, without having to sell anything so useful!

Cool... did you have the English version recorded in Italian? This film holds a big spot in my heart.... I don't know how many prints are out there, but I've never seen on for sale.

Oh, and would love to see your screen shots when you can.... always love to see your screen shots.

Greg, the print I have was in English. I bought it used from an Italian collector. It was already dubbed into Italian.

I will be happy to post some pics when next screening this masterpiece of all times.

And I have maybe a good piece of news for you. Take a look to the mail I have sent you a couple of minutes ago [Wink] .

Cheers.

Gian, have you screened the E.T. print you own before? What is your evaluation of the quality compared to say Derann's prints?

Posted by Gian Luca Mario Loncrini (Member # 1417) on December 04, 2009, 09:22 PM:

Larry, I already did more than once.
I have to say it's a very good copy. But not comparable to a Derann. The source was for sure a positive print (probably a 16mm).

Well its almost Christmas again [Roll Eyes] one thing for sure the older you get the quicker time passes [Eek!] anyway, thought I might add this old Giles cartoon same as last year for those who have not yet seen it... always makes me [Smile]

Sunday Express, December 21st, 1958.

"Sorry, folks, we can't show you our holiday films and baby's first birthday party.....projector's packed up."

Film wise so far... for us it will be "A Walt Disney Christmas" and "The Snowman" on Super8, by the way I also have it on 16mm but that version does not include the song "Walking In The Air" which is a pity. Derann also sold "Walking In The Air" as a 200ft 11 minute extract.

Graham.
