Can any one help please? i have had this projector for a month now month or so now, its pretty much like new, clearly it has had very little use & unfortunatly this can also cause problems, i shall put a few images on this post when i can get to do it later but it has come up looking lovely, its fully greased and oiled and spins perfectly, my only two problems are these,
The take up spindle wont spin because the gear isnt engauging when switched forwaed, if i engauged manualy with the back cover off its fine but i cant see what makes it engauge mechanicaly,
The slider switch to release the forward reverse knob is very slack and works no matter what postion the rotary switch is in,
Once i get these sorted it'l go up for sale as i already have two elmo's and two eumigs,i'd prefer to get it 100% before putting it up for sale.

Hi Tom,

You wont see any mechanical parts activating the gears to the take up spindle.

The change in direction of rotation of the shuttershaft causes a pair of swinging idler gears to change drive to either of the 2 coaxial take up spindles. This change over movement is driven by friction which swaps the gears over.
Forward & reverse uses different driving gears & if one is not meshing properly then some lubrication to the gears & the moving linkages should fix it.
Make sure the 2 coaxial spindles are completely free. The small outer spindle should pull out a bit and pop back in. The large inner spindle should push in a bit then pop back out. Spray some lube into the shafts to ensure they are free.

See how you go & report back with results.

Hi Pat

Yeah, Its cool being Frankarnstein now but it was tough as a kid.
I copped a lot of crap about my strange looking head & weird name during the early years.
Needed to be a good runner till I learned to fight & also fix projectors.

Nowdays there is no fighting done & Dogtor Frankarnstein is welcome most anywhere. Thats because he can fix most 8mm projectors quicker than some other projector fixers.
Hope to keep doing this projector fixing till the end of the show.
