Hi
I bought a Gs1200 Xenon to watch some old movies I have and did not realize that the machine was such a good find, only problem is when I turn on the power it blows the main fuse immediately, I read on here it may be the CU board? any ideas or way for a guy that knows nothing about these to check it out?
Any and all help will be appreciated, I would like to fix this if possible. Thanks in advance.
Jon

Hi Jon,
This is roughly like saying you needed to drive to 7-11 to get the Big Gulp, so you wound up buying a Ferrari!
You've got yourself an absolutely spectacular projector that is lightyears beyond anything I have. The only advice I can offer is if you can't find a fix to it please sell it.
PS: There is no personal bias in this. I don't want to pay what it's worth, even dead...

Leon Norris (610) 275-1225
This is the man to call, if he can't fix it I doubt anyone can.

Got a call in to Leon.
Thanks

On this side of the pond, Leon is definately the man for anything GS1200.

Welcome to this wonderful forum!
If he can't fix it...Duall Camera in NYC can. They are expensive..much more so than Leon but they were able to get the track 2 of a previous GS1200 Xenon working in only 2 days.
And if you ever want to sell the Xenon...I would be very interested-

So what is a dead Xenon worth?
Probably going to send it to Leon and then see what I can get out of it, not a hobby for me soooo.

Probably the defect is in the xenon lamp power supply.
Give a look to the bottom side: the lamp supply box is hold on by four screws. Unscrew them and then disconnect the blue and brown cables. That is enough to esclude the power lamp supply. Now change the main fuse and try to switch on the machine.
If the main fuse is still alive, the defect is in the lamp supply box.
This part is fragile: the broken parts are (probably) the 2sc2139 transistors (two), some fast diodes, and some resistors. Good equivalent parts are available by well stocked electronic stores (like RS-components)
You can see a fixed power box here:

and here the damaged parts just before to remove them from the box.

Ugo
Tried what you said and it fired right up, I couldn't believe it, the machine runs great other than the lamp so will work on this part and see how the rest fairs.
It looked like everything was replaced in your pics? my radio shack blows for parts, I will need to order them,
any more info would be great, and thanks again.

Hello Jon,
hold the line. I'll edit this message with a list of the broken parts and the equivalents now on the market.
Posted by Ugo Grassi (Member # 139) on October 22, 2010, 09:01 AM:
old transistor (2): 2SC2139
new: BUX48A or BUX98A (second stronger but expensive)
old fast diodes (8): 1S1835
new: UF5408 or BYW38
old fast recover double epitaxial diode (1): 12CH4FM
new: DSEI 2x31-10B (the original is double with common catode; in the new you have to connect the catodes of the parallel diodes)
Resistors (2): 1K 1W (better to mount a stronger 2W)
Resistors (4) 10 ohm 1/2W (better 1W)
Often the 12CH4FM is working, but to avoid to burn out the new parts it's better to change it.
The 12CH4FM is in the red circle, all the other parts are in the blue rectangle

Note: I buy these parts by http://www.distrelec.com. By the datasheet you are able to find other equivalent parts available in USA

Ugo
Thank you for the info, I am working on finding the parts this weekend and hope to have this done soon, checked out the machine and all seems good other than the lamp of course, auto threader, forward reverse, slow, frames, all seem fine, very quiet also, still need to run a reel with sound though.
I will keep all informed about this.

To be sure the power box will work I change a rectifier bridge too. Anyway you may test it by a multimeter to check if it's broken or not.
That's bottom the board mounted over the 2SC2139. The original is a 15G4B41
http://www.datasheetarchive.com/dataframe.php?file=DSA-765598.pdf&dir=Datasheets-39
That's a common part, but the equivalent bridges now on the market are larger for a bit. To mount the equivalent on the board you have to enlarge the setup holes.

OK Guys.
I had a tv guy try to fix the lamp box and he had no clue obviously since it still doesn't work. Still blowing a fuse with the light box hooked up. I am going to go ahead and sell it as is, I'll post some pics and a video of it running. I want to avoid ebay hassle and fees, so look for this in the for sale section on this forum soon. Let me know if you have any questions, you can always make me an offer!

Just wandering what Leon Norris said about the projector.
Posted by Jon Vork (Member # 2253) on January 19, 2011, 02:19 PM:
I did not send it to leon, we figured out what was wrong with it and I had a guy repair it after I ordered parts, I do not believe he did it correctly.
Ugo has let me know that he will repair the power box so I am sending him the unit, so here we go again, will let you know when it is repaired and go from there.
Thanks
