I have a Eumig S932 Super 8 projector which does not play fast enough. It has a 18-24 frame rate adjustment, but it is not working properly. Just wondered if this was a common problem, and if anyone knew the fix.
Thanks

I do not know about the 932 but if it has the same mechanism as the 938 it is possible that it is set up for 60hZ operation.
Check the rating plate... if it says 50hz and 60hz then it will have capability for both which means there will be a means of changing a belt position and a voltage setting. SOME of the 938s had this, but not all.

Thanks - looks like I am 20 miles from you !
I see it is set to 240V, but doesnt have a visable window (like some other Eumigs) to change the frequency from 50 to 60 Hz

Hi guys, looks like I have the same problem Mike had back in 2010 with my Eumig S932 😕 Everything is working fine, but can't get the speed high enough for the sound to be normal. The data plate says it's set at 50 Hz, and the voltage 240, and I'm in the UK so all should be good. Same films work fine on other projectors. Now this is a strange thing, the speed control seems to be working backwards! Looking at the white dot on the speed control, and the little diagram next to the control, when I move it to 24 fps it's slower than when at the 18 fps position. Wonder if I have bought Miles old machine ☺. Any answers before I start to strip it would be appreciated

Your projector may be suffering from slip of the rubber drive discs, which is common on all Eumigs. Remove the front cover and wipe both discs with a Q-tip soaked in alcohol. Let it dry and try the projector again. If it's still not running at full speed at 24fps, try wiping with a q-tip soaked with automobile rubber belt dressing and let dry( eliminates auto fan belt and alternator belt slippage)
You should also lubricate the main drive shaft bearings and gears, all accessible by removing the back cover, just in case the load on the motor drive discs is too high due to no lubrication or dryed up grease on the gears.
Incidentally Graham, I had an Aunt who lived in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, and spent many happy days in and around Manchester as a boy and teenager. I remember the Cat and Fiddle pub in Derbyshire quite well!

The Cat & Fiddle is still doing very well Paul. A popular pub among the biking community here and one which offers a particularly spectacular view of the Manchester skyline from the very high altitude of its location.
I will find and post a recent photo some time later.
We love to spend time in this area and the peak district in the warmer months here.
Graham, almost certainly it is the friction disc linings as Paul describes that need your attention.
They all go like this at some point until cleaned again.
The fact it appears to be working in reverse only adds to the confusion experienced, but it is simply slippage that you're experiencing as the drive attempts to grip another area of the glazed and shiny linings, more than likely.
Clean all with pure alcohol solution and if it still proves to be problematic, try lightly applying a new "key" to the surfaces using a little wet and dry or very fine emery cloth.

Andrew, I just 'drove' up the A537 on Google street view, and found The Cat and Fiddle alive and well! I last bicycled through Derbyshire in 1989 and stopped there for a well deserved rest and pint! How lucky you are to be close to such stunning Derbyshire country.

Fabulous realistic view there Paul, of how the establishment still looks right now.
As lovely as Derbyshire and the Peak District really are, and our friend Del knows far better than I,.. Florida is a place I hold close to my heart also. A very magical place on planet earth and not only for it's Studios and Theme Parks.
1989, there is a good chance we inadvertently, crossed paths at one point or another Paul, especially if you regularly went shopping for camera stock in the region at that time.

Andrew, some of the happiest days of my life were spent in Manchester. My earliest memory of being there was a 1951 Christmas at my Aunt Ethel's house in Chorlton, my mum and dad and grandparents were there as well, and Ethel had a Christmas tree which I had never seen before. On 'Boxing day' she took me and my brother to see the showing of Alistaire Simm's Christmas Carol at a cinema on the London Road. During those days the whole family would take trips out to the Goyt Valley, The Cat and Fiddle inn, and The Marquis of Granby Hotel near Hathersage for dinner. On my 1989 bicycling trip I flew from Florida to Manchester with my bike, and cycled out through Chappel-on-le-Frith to Castelton and hathersage, then to Matlock and the tram museum, looped around back through Buxton, then down to Wales via Stoke-on-Trent, Iron Bridge, and Maldon.
So that whole area is very close to my heart.
(I realize Mr. Moderator (Doug) that all of this has nothing at all to do with Mike's Eumig problem, but figure that Andrew and I have probably solved his problem )

Great memoirs there Paul and in response to Grahams issues here, I hope you're correct.

I'd picked up a couple of faulty Eumigs for very little money. They both used the rubber disk drive system. After cleaning the disks with 100% Isopropyl Alcohol, I stood each on their fronts and brushed ordinary brake fluid onto the front disks and let it soak in for 24 hours before wiping up the surplus. I then stood each on their backs and repeated the process. It worked a treat.
