I'm sure many of my fellow collectors have this dilema....should I put all 3 200' reels on 1 600' reel? For example. I have The 7th Voyage of Sinbad 1-2-3. Do I put these on a 600' reel to make a better digest? Also making it better to watch becuase it's longer? Of course, if I did that I would keep the original boxes because of the box art. Also I would make my own box art for the 600' reel. So, what do you guys do?
Thanks

Pasq,...in the case of 200' reelers, yes I will splice them together.
It is to hassle for me to change the reels every 7 minutes.
However, if it is 400', I will keep it as it is, especially if it has OB like Marketing.

hi! friend pasquale,go forward make the edit, all small footage
it,s better for list in my opinion put together in the same reel
because gives better for the audience and for the lamp of the
projector switch off every seven minutes, and safe storage place
also...

Pat, when I combine several reels on a larger one, I keep the lab leaders and original reels in the OBs.

I had all four parts edited together that I bought off a used list a few years ago; and it was a nice edit with good color. But I'm sure it was all on one 600' reel. I sold it when I got the feature.

Pat - I have an extra copy of #4 if you want it. It has great color but there is a scratch. I'd let it go for $10 plus shipping.
PS: I can never decide whether to edit reels together or not - I usually leave them on their original reels in the boxes because that's how they came...

I mostly do features and they all go on big reels (1600 feet and up) for hassle-free viewing. I keep leaders on a little reel.
It's how I did it before I got the long-play unit; with the ST-1200 I would always put features on 1200 foot spools.
I don't like interruptions in a film if it can at all be avoided...when I watch, I want to watch

I will only edit together reels if it only requires a splice or two, such as combining the 200' and 400' FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN digests. It's not worth it to me if there has to be multiple splices intra-reel. There's nothing worse than a "splicy" digest for the sake of intercutting scenes out of a 200' digest into a 400' digest. You usually wind up with something that you wouldn't show to an audience, particularly given the wide variances of print quality that plagues Super 8.

When I do splice shorts together...for instance I have a 600' reel of Herbie: The Love Bug/Love Bug #53/Monte Carlo that I spliced together....I do leave the original leaders and reels in the original boxes.
But I do have some digests like STAR WARS, SUPERMAN, and BLACK SUNDAY that have been taken from different sources (I bought them this way) and they do suffer from high/low audio and grain/color differences. So I would agree with John about that. I won't show them to an audience.
I do like keeping things "original" so it is a struggle wanting to splice things together.

...I always mount shorter films onto big reels-not only 200's on 600's but also 400's on 1200's-provided they're not in original boxes....
