Hey guys, I am wondering about line on film. I understand it old film age but how did it make line on the film?

Lines are caused by projectors and/or handling. They don't just appear with old age.

Mick: You see how humour and pop culture can be very subjective concepts? (re: your extremely funny answer here and our Jimi Hendrix reference on Small Format...)

Andrew,

To make it a little bit simple, I can tell you that film is made of Polyester or Acetate base. This is some kind (you may say) plastic.

On the top of that base there is also film emulsion.

Film is always projected using a projector that there are a lot of metal part. When there is a slightly mis-adjustment or mis-alignment of those metal parts, it can harm both plastic and the emulsion.

And that will create scratch (= lines).

Although you have a perfect projector without any possibility to make scratch on your film, but if you play and play it again hundreds times, it will get scratched eventually.

cheers,
