I was looking at some of these on EBay and wondered if these were ever sold at Disneyland in the shops. Just imagine it that after an enjoyable day there you could go in the gift shop (assuming they have one) and pick up a souvenier of a super 8 film in a nice box. Other companies put out their own travel films so there was a market for those who wanted something professionally shot.

Or was these WDHM's disneyland films only sold in the conventional shops?

I can confirm that they were indeed sold in gift shops at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. I purchased my 50' copy of the "Haunted Mansion" back in the '70s at a gift shop in Disney World.

Thanks for those answers. It was just a thought I had looking at all the disneyland releases. There are quite a few of them in both sound and silent.

Yes, the Camera Shop on Main Street in Walt Disney World (right on the circle as you enter the park) used to have a large display of super 8 films (It's where I bought my Haunted Mansion 50'er as well!). I stopped in when I went back a few years ago -the camera shop is still there, but of course the films are long gone... I wonder if there are any down in the basement?

Funny you should mention this Graham as I recently parted company with several of these. They were good and ideal to pop one in a show to break up the cartoons for kids shows.

Love these films; Yep Disneyland sold them where Brian says. Like many other theme parks and attractions did their own; Niagara Falls, Pearl Harbour and I am guessing Universal may have as well.

Yes, Universal Studios Hollywood had their own travelogue type super 8 reels.

When you do you'll never get that tune out of your head Graham!

I think the main Street Electrical Parade went to Japan after I last saw it in the 80's; did it ever return to Disneyland?

Japan had its own, the Disneyland version went to the encore shows at WDW through the 90s. All Disney parks had theirs (except Hong Kong) and it was still kicking last year At California Adventure

I can still hum the Electrical Parade song in my head since last hearing it 5 years ago. I also own the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise and Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom. The color on them is actually still pretty good. I just watched them late last year.

Saw something on eBay today that made me think of this thread so I thought I'd revive it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HAUNTED-MANSION-Super-8-Film-Reel-Very-RARE-/370897487442?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item565b368652

It's fantastic if your a fan of the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland but $75? Seems a bit pricey for a 2 min. silent film.

The seller says it's in "great condition" but doesn't say anything about color. I have the Disneyland and Walt Disney World film. Both are faded like most of my other souvenir films from the parks.

Here's the copy I purchased from WDW in 1982. It's been slowed down to 18 fps and sound has been added.

I made that video about 15 years ago. The film is now completely red.

My Disneyland film is in better shape.

Anyone have a copy of the Haunted Mansion film (DL or WDW) that's not faded?

The seller states "very rare". I have a doubt about that.

Here's another "rare" copy of the Haunted Mansion film.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370910859186&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:3160

This one's only $50! [Smile]

Jim,

"The Magic of Walt Disney World" is great. I taped it off the Disney Channel 25 years ago. I'd love to have it on 16mm.

The title of that film was turned into a song for the film "A Dream Called Walt Disey World" from 1980. It's a film I have watched on VHS many, many times.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BUNy5THpi4

"The magic of Walt Disney World, to fly you to the top of your highest dreams. The magic of Walt Disney World, forget all your sorrows, tomorrow's better than it seems. There's something magical about a parade, little kids and pink lemonade, grown-ups having the best time of their lives. There's magic in all the things you can do, and when you're done and you think you are through, you turn around and then there's more than you ever dreamed of!"

That song will be stuck in my head all day now. [Smile]

I only hope that Disney NEVER released "It's A Small World" in sound, now that song really irritated me.

The 50' "it's a small world" films from Disneyland and WDW were never released with sound but there is a 200' film called "The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World" that has part of the song.

It's a fun travelogue. If you really hate the Sherman Brother's song, just skip 2:55 to 3:15. [Smile]

The main score of this short film was composed by Buddy Baker. It was originally used for the "The Magic of Walt Disney World" film from 1972.

My copy of the Magic Kingdom film is really faded.
