Well, it came as a suprise to me ...

I just say a feature print of "Bugsy Malone" (truly, the most unique "gangster film" ever released, with an all child cast!), that was a Derann release.

I knew of digests of this film, but not a feature release, except for an optical feature release which I own, but not a magnetic feature release.

Just interesting seeing something else in film-dom that is yet new to me.

Osi this was release on the Walton brand 8 real feature. The usual 72 mins from the 90 minutes feature and a nice edit. Or the 2 reel version again a nice edit. Print and sound quality was spot on on this release. A good one from Walton who could be very varable in quality on there release.

Colin - I think Osi is referring to the full length release that Derann put out - I'd guess it was mid to late 1980s. It rarely seems to turn up nowadays.

Yes, Adrian is correct, I'm speaking of the Derann feature ...

and yes, Mr. Mannering, i remember well your remembrances of "Bugsy" as it was one of the first conversations we had on and off this here ole forum!

Yup another quality Derann issue and one I was awaiting with baited breath upon release for obvious reasons. I have seen the full feature for sale from time to time but Adrian is right that it is not on sales lists so often. It’s worth recording the sound track into stereo as well to complete as was seen in the Kinema. A few years ago now I did a home re-enactment of the London premiere here, digging out all the old press cuttings, posters and the photos I took on set as a young lad. Will have to do that again sometime as I still like doing theme nights. Happy days!

Did not realise this was released by Derran. Going back to the year after the original. I did see the cars used for the film at Pinewood on my only visit to the studios. Yes they really work and wonder now who may own those cars now or maybe they did not survive. Film parts shot in Black Park behind Pinewood studios with some shots in the studio grounds that have a vast garden to use.

I have a 1 x 400 Feet Version from Walton.
And from Derann gives a full lengh Version with Magnetic soundtrack...and it gives a lot of prints in Germany with German Soundtrack...all in magnetic soundstripe

Issues on Super 8mm were
400ft Walton
4X400ft Walton (cut)
3X600ft full feature Derann
3x600ft full airline feature Optical sound

The Derann 200ft issue of Pinewood Open day also contains shots of the cars and it would be fantastic if this short became available once again as most old copies around are now pink.

16mm features crop up as well as do the trailers of which there were 2 edits plus a promo reel.

In the 1970’s some nice TV material was broadcast including the Clapperboard special which covered many things including the construction of the cars.

What a great find. I remember that movie. I loved the miniature cars. That film was so well done and the kids were great. I'd love to have a copy of that myself.

Oh.. And you could also hire the 16mm feature in 1977 from Rank at a cost of £25 for one screening as we did. Derann also had the Super 8 feature for hire as well much later.

By the way the new price of Bugsy Malone in 1986 was £197.99
The Pinewood Studios short was priced at £16.99 then.

I wonder if Derann would include a clip from Bugsy for the Northern Film Collectors Conv 2011?? Got me thinking now.

I can vouch for that optical super 8 print having a very saturated lovely color. The film doesn't look like it has aged a day!
