Just got a Sankyo 800 Stereo projector. All is well except there is no sound at all. (Checked all fuses; all are okay). Not even a hiss from the speakers. The record light won't come on either, when the record buttons are pressed. Any help appreciated!

Hi Simon. Had much trouble with my 800 from new and it was mainly due to dry solder joints. Remove the back and power up KEEPING WELL AWAY FROM THE TRANSFORMER/MAINS POWER AREA. Turn up the volume control and carefully waggle each circuit board to see if you have the same trouble. If the sound suddenly comes on its likely you will have a dry joint which will need soldering. The sound track selector switch might also be the problem perhaps.

Be careful when you are inside the back of the machine when plugged in though.

Other ideas:
Sometimes the speaker output sockets can also fail causing loss of any sound. Try tapping an external speaker direct to the PCB connectors to check this out, first un plugging the original internal speakers.

Try connecting an external amp to see if the first stage of the Sankyo's audio is working.

Repaired a Eumig once where a single capacitor had gone on the amp. This caused total loss of any audio until replaced.

Sankyo and Elmo both have speaker attached to the back cover with wire hooked up between main board and the speaker(s).

The most obvious problem of projector not getting the sound is the previous owner opened the back cover and forgot to re-connect the wire back into the original position.

This will result no hiss sound at all from the speaker (of course because the wire is not connected).

Simon,please check that.

All right then,...now get an earphone or a headphone. Hook it up to the phone input on the projector and check it out when a movie is playing if you hear the sound.

If you are also not getting the sound at all, then the problem might be serious.

Forget the speaker/earphone connections....the Record light doesn't come on either!
There is clearly a fault affecting both PLAYBACK and RECORD.
A schematic diagram is called for here and some electronic diagnostic skills. Anyone cot the schematic?
