Haha!

The question is ... what Woody cartoon, "Woodpecker from Mars"?

and, what Beatles song? (Norweigen Wood?)

Austin- Go ahead and experiment, you will be surprised how music matches many silent films. Keep in mind the length of your film and play a song that is just as long or a few seconds longer. Let us know how it goes!

Austin ...

Your a man after my own heart, as I did something similar some years ago. I had a bunch of sound striped leader from a lot of different films, I kind of made my idea of an "art film" and took those "countdown" and other leaders, had some upside down and such, , all spliced together and being that I had a great stereo recording projector, recorded the Bread song, "Everything I Own" direct from the CD of thier greatest hits, and I was surprised at just how good the stereo reproduction was on that little film track.

I wish I still had that little 50ft reel!

ok heres the thing will it ruin the film and can i take the music off if i want to?

Osi - I'm going to copy your idea some time.

Austin - If the film has a magnetic stripe attached to the film, you can record and re-record as many times as you want to (like a cassette tape) on that stripe. You must have a projector that has the capability to record or a editor viewer with the same function. Once the original audio is recorded on top of, it is gone forever. However, you can always find the cartoon on youtube and replace the audio, but it will not be as "crisp" as the original.

Have fun!

Austin,

I'm sure you've told me this before, but which projector are you using?

Austin ...

It's just as easy to remove a recording on magnetic stripe as it is to record it, if that is your question. However, if there is the chance that you might want to reverse the sound and put back on what was there before, make a copy (Mp3 works fine) of the origional soundtrack as an Mp3 file. There are many free programs for doing so but the easiest one to use I have found (with great sound) is ...

Mp3MyMP3 3.1

then, you can simply take that soundtrack and re-apply it to the film stripe.

However ...

Make sure that you know exactly what speed your projector was running at when you recorded that track off the film onto Mp3, otherwise, it can be a bi**h to get the sync back.

Gerald ...

It is fun! Look through your collection of music and find a song that even fits your "artistic endeavors". This time around (as I have now inspired myself yet again to do an art film!) I'll take snippets from all kinds of faded films, including leader and make a neat artsy film out of it!
