Tom,

Hopefully that trailer will be the next Super 8mm release. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about the film. If there are Super 8 T-shirts for sale, please pick one up for poor Graham Ritchie!

In all honesty I think the film "Super 8" will affect our hobby price wise. Unscrupulous people will start over pricing kit and films to those interested in the hobby, joining due to the film. I teach film to undergraduates and I was at a boot sale and watched a dealer trying to sell a standard 8mm cine camera to some media students, he used the lines of ' you'll need one of these cameras, and yes its the right kind' etc etc. I managed to collar the students and advise them otherwise (Super 8 at the very least) So I think its best if we advise all newbies what is a realistic price to pay for kit, eg Gioca Baby Sound super 8 projector around £35...Elmos GS1200 possily £500 upwards etc etc etc. Cheers to all.

That movie is what finally got me into film movie making! If you haven't seen it, it's a bit reminiscent of cloverfield, with steadier camera shots haha. It is definitely a Spielberg movie at heart, you can see how he used things that have worked well in his other movies and combined them to help make a movie that has EVERYTHING a movie should have and more. The only complaints me and my brother had were Abram's use of excessive lens flare. It's kind of like the Star Trek lens flare but not as bad. 5 Stars From me!

So yeah, I'm gearing up to shoot some super 8 soon. For one thing I've always been into older technology, being 21 years old now I missed out on all this cool stuff. My Grandpa gave me a huge collection of old photographic equipment, and I always meant to locate the film and make movies. Unfortunately most of it is 16mm and I want to film super 8, so I've been trying to sell pieces of the collection in order to buy super 8 film and equipment. But yeah, I'm definitely into this stuff now and I cannot wait to shoot my first short film! [Smile] My sincere hope is that if more people get into it, more people will start producing and processing the film, and it won't cost 50 dollars to get a roll shot, developed, and shipped to and from California 3 times XD

Chris. I think my first story film was a high budget re-make of DRACULA in about 1971. It was an expensive project shot in some local woods, used 1 reel (50ft) of film, two school friends and a one page script. But boy what fun we had as children! I expect the new feature film will bring quite a number of young film makers to the hobby which is great news for budding future film directors.
Happy days! [Cool]
