I have been asked a few times over the years about S8mm intermissions, so my question to S8mm collectors is this: Is there enough interest in new intermission prints? The only place I can find that can do the work is Andec in Germany and they are not cheap. The prices are about as much as 16mm prints...but if there is enough interest in any of the following, we can have some S8mm negs made for a print run.

Some thoughts on what can be done are:

Hey Wayne,

I would love to have something like this. I'd be especially interested in Drive-in related stuff.

We vacationed up in Maine last week and went to a Drive-In. They had all these great old daysets including this one that went something like "Just five minutes to the second feature! Still time to get some delicious refreshments!" Then went into this almost minute long animated segment of dancing hotdogs and soda before "Just four minutes to the second feature!.....".

Other ones included this 1950s family arriving at the Drive-In in their sparkling new car and marveling at all the neat stuff that was there. I'll have to say that to the modern eye the people looked excessively well dressed, well groomed and happy! Junior and Sis in the back seat seemed pleased to be out with Mom and Dad, didn't have an electronic game stuffed in their face and neither had a cell phone. (Was life really ever like this?)

Put me down for Bambi meets Godzilla too! It would be a blast to show this to an audience that was completely unaware of the ending! (...or is that the "middle"?)

PS: Is Andec doing the striping as well?

Yeah, you ain't kiddin about the high costs of Andec, but they are very good with thier printing and all. Great service!

I wouldn't mind an all animated intermission reel, 200ft or 400ft (well, Andec releases all on either 400ft or 600ft reels).

Steve, if I understand them right, they can stripe regular acetate stock still, not sure if they do estar or not. Osi may know (or anyone else who has purchased films they made)

If we can get enough interest in any one or even a few of these, I could move forward. Although it wouldn't happen next week or even next month. Some of my 16mm negs are still being created so the are not ready to be released to me.

I would only be looking to cover costs + postage. AND for Bambi Meets Godzilla, that is Marv's footage and there would be a little extra per print to pay Marv for leasing the rights.

I also forgot to mention I will have reduction 16mm negs in a couple weeks for the SPY IN YOUR THEATER (nazi clip) a 40's B&W PREVIEW and late 50's B&W New Year announcement that I may possibly add to the list.

I'll Call Steve O. to see if he wants to put in a question/interest blurb in The Reel Image too since he has subscribers who do not use forums much.

Andec's min. is 25 meters so a couple I have in mind either would have to be joined, left out, or multiplied.

Good luck with any Super 8 releases, but it now seems conclusive that there's no other lab - at least in Europe or the USA - willing to produce Super 8 prints. Derann made countless calls to labs, after the one they used in England closed, and couldn't find one anywhere.

Id have to contact them, but I think they now have the ability to stripe polyester stock, (as acetate was being discontinued. Good riddance, that yellowish color always set me off!)

No need Osi, I got confirmation Polyester can be striped. However only on mono-track...which makes no difference since my 16mm soundtrack is only mono-track.

Also, a lot of my thoughts for options for what to print have been removed from the board. If it is too small, the editing is too expensive.

Now the hard part will be to 20 or more confirmations for any one thing. And I would need deposits to cover my ass.

At this point I think the group of 200's, B.M.G., and the 5 minute refreshment time clock would be good to do, but the majority will rule in the long run.

Lucky thing about Bambi Steve, is the elements are in a string of five repeated. Since run time is 90 seconds, it wouldn't have made it just one by itself. Down side as stated before, I have to pay Marv a bit per print, so those will be a little more per meter than anything else. (not much)

Do you have a ballpark price per meter (with stripe and recording)?

I figure the 200s as a slightly overfilled 200 Footer (66 Meters)

The 200's is close to 80 meters
The 5 minute clock runs heavy according to my labs billable footage, it is about 44 meters.
Bambi is about 57 meters, with 5 clips in it.

right now, the only ballpark figures I have are from andec's price sheet.

I tell you, the life of a Super-8/drive-in fan is a lonely one.

I have a drive in speaker and putting into my sound system is (perpetually) on my do-list. I have a 200 Ft. Pathe-Pic about a Drive-In opened in Rome in 1965.

-I even have a compact car (proportional to the screen size), but my wife won't let me bring it in the screening room!

(-something about soiling the carpet...maybe even collapsing the floor! ....Would that be auto insurance or homeowners?)
