Was at the local thrift store browsing around - found a Eumig Mark-S 712D. Requested to plug it in, spools run and it even lights up! Priced at $25, I had to have it (even if the sound doesn't work, it'll be nice to have a nice Dual-8 ready for use if my Chinon that I rehabbed breaks down).
Just curious - does anyone have a manual / any service suggestions? Going to do my best to clean up the inside, light contact cleaning, gear lubing w/ lithium. How about cleaning the heads w/ alcohol? I know you can clear up an old cassette answering machine or walkman with a cotton swap and a bit of alcohol - same concept here or should I exercise EXTREME caution?
Oh - and how about speakers - can I pick them up anywhere?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

I've just purchased a Mark S 712 and finally got an English Manual.
Email/contact me and I'll email you the PDF of the manual I did.

Hi Alan, thanks for offering the manual for the Eumig mark-s 712. Iīve also been looking for it without succeeding. I would be really pleased if you could send it to me: lantonio.lan@gmail.com
I donīt understand how to change the film format from super 8 to 8 mm. I think I'm missing some piece.
Thanks a lot!

Hi Alan, (or anyone who can help please)
I'm new to this forum as well as to 8mm Film projectors.
I've just purchased an Eumig S 712 & I too have searched all over for an English Manual. Would you be so kind as to email me a copy too please?
My film is also jumping, I've tried holding the pressure plate, to no avail, still jumps. Any ideas on how I can fix this.
I also have a Eumig 709 dual, but it too isn't working properly, are the pressure plates between to 2 inter changable? Can I also use the regular 8 plate from the 709 on the S712?
Any help would be most appreciated.
kind regards
Mandi Nel

Hi All, i have had several Eumigs over the years and at present have 4 Eumig 807/810's. The first thing I always do (and you have to be SUPER CAREFUL!!!!!!) is with the back cover off (and unpowered) I carefully sand the rubber friction pad which drives the projector froim the motor, wow does it make a differene, restoring the true running speeds. (I actually had a slow running Eumig, set to 24fps and it was managing probably 21fps with the sound full of wow and flutter, I sanded with the motor running (naughty)and a speaker plugged in and you could hear the sound improving as the machine was returned to the correct running speed) So carefully sand those rubber drive units (am sure other collectors will advise differently, ie using rubber restorer etc, but I am used to my way) Good luck, oh and the change over gates do appear on Ebay, I know there is a set on Ebay,co.uk at the moment, but check they are for your model as I'm not sure if gates from series 7 machines will fit series 8 etc etc

Very sound advise Mark, and it's exactly the thing I do with my
old Mark S & 709 machines and they run like new.I don't really
know if the gates are different in the 712s and chances are they
could be interchangable, but it pays to be sure.I would think an
E-mail to any cine shop would be able to answer this question.

Hello Mandi, further to my E-mail,the grey sprockets and gate &
back plate are for Std or Reg 8mm,the blue are for S/8.Make
sure that the red spot is at 12 o'clock on the inching knob at the rear of the machine when changing your format
plates or you might damage your claw pin. There is a little film
trimmer on the top of the machine, this is to make sure that the
end of film you present to the projector is not folded or damaged.
Start the projector, and depress the grey loop former on the top
of the macine, the film will come through the bottom of the gate
this machine is semi auto thread, which means that now you must form the loop for sound separation by the diagrams on
the projector chassis, large loop for std 8.small for S/8, feed the film into the slot around the
larger sprocket and close the guide,up over the top roller and onto the take up spool.Don't forget to change the switch on
the side of the projector for your sound either std or super.
the projector should be showing your film without any stutter.
Don't touch the large red button in the rear of the machine
as this is for recording, likewise the white button on the top
near the handle, this is for superimposing sound,do not touch
them, as you could damage your soundtrack. The colour of the
light changes when the record button is depressed from the
normal GREEN for replay,to RED for record and WHITE for
superimposition.Play safe and leave them alone.I hope this is
of some help,I'm not sure myself if the gate plates are interchangable with the S712D ,they might, as these machines were turned out about the same time,if you e-mail any of the
repairers on this forum, they should be able to tell you.
Anyway, best of luck with your projector and keep us informed
as to if it works or not.we can't help if we don't know.Take care.
