Our founder, John Black would have been steadfastly proud for we held court in high esteem (with some vapors), amidst the screenings of some of the finest in both Super 8mm and 16mm - I say a round-about cheer to Gary Sloan, Lou Franchetti, Gary Crawford (Who matches me voice for voice), John Capazzo, Steve Klare, our best photographer and great gentleman, Claus Harding, the finest technician and moderator who keeps us all in line, Doug "The Amazing" Meltzer, please allow me to say thank you to the fine staff at Ocean Holiday Resort, and to our friend whom we honor, John Black - Thanks Blackie, we have the projector threaded, the lights are dimmed, and the dreams go on...Shorty

At the risk of sounding like a broken record -- move the show somewhere more accessible and you'll get more people.
Wildwood is not convenient for anyone...

You're right Steven, it does sound like a broken record. Please lift the needle.

Wildwood was where John Black established it, and as a tribute to him we kept it there. It may move someday, but for now this is the best choice.

I went and had a great time. It's not often you get to hang out with a bunch of other guys who are into film. I was thinking what a rare thing it is to watch a print that actually isn't one of my own.

We went out to a nice little seafood place Saturday night. Our table mostly talked about wives and film. The other table got into this spirited debate about the merits of two different 16mm machines. You should have seen the looks on the faces of the other people!

Look at it this way: ultimately, given how geographically spread out our membership is, there is no one place that is "more convenient."
Heck, Dino came from California last year! It makes my little Greyhound jaunt from DC nothing by comparison.

I find Wildwood, with its "lost in time" quality and the great beach, just perfect for us, as opposed to a faceless hotel in a city.
I could easily get to New York, but this place is special.

I visited Wildwood a few summers back at the peak of the season and it was absolutely crazy: no place to park and wall to wall people. This time of the year it's very laid back. I like it!

Hey Jon!,

Jon drove down from Manhattan for the day despite family committments earlier that weekend.

I saw this distinguished looking man walking among the tables, fairly serious and better dressed than the rest of the room. I thought "Oh no...the manager has come to tell us it's time to leave!"

It was Jon!

(For some reason I thought Jon Addams should look like William Daniels...)

The highlight for me was Doug Meltzer brought down his backdrop screen and we set it up roughly 8 feet by 12. We had a GS and a 16mm machine and they took turns showing reel after reel until about 1 AM. Steve Osborne sent a reel for us to watch and I saw some things I would like.

Lou, Jon, everyone,

Since I was the only one who took pics in general, here's the deal:

I am working on the stills, and between me posting and Doug linking things, we should be able to have the picture threads close together. We did that last time, and it seemed to go well.

I also shot Super-8 footage in an admittedly dark room (but hey, how could it be otherwise) so once my cartridges are done, they go in all at once to get processed; that's part of the package deal.
When I get them back (and if good) I will edit a piece together and place it on Vimeo and give you all a link.

I drove to Wildwood from Va. (near DC)..and had a great time. The hotel has nice big suites....very cheap in the off season...and just lovely ....where else can you buy, sell, swap and screen films AND at the same time gaze out at the ocean? The hotel staff are wonderful to us....and this is one place where the organizer of the show doesn't have to shell out a fortune in advance for room rentals, etc...and risking losing it when people find other reasons not to come to the event. Room rates were 65 dollars a night for a huge suite. If the show were moved somewhere else, room rates would be likely much higher. The organizer would have to charge much more for dealers' tables.... and then people wouldn't come because they'd say it's too expensive. Every year I drive the 8 hours from my house to Syracuse for the Cinefest..and 8 hours to Columbus for Cinevent. It's about four and a half hours to Wildwood. All these trips are totally worth it to me. Great people sharing a hobby they love.

My wife and I so desperately wished that we could have went, but with the music not taking off yet and diminishing finances, we just couldn't make it.

We did toy with a cross country trip, but our Van dying nipped that in the bud!

I hope that all who went had a most wonderful time.
