what makes you think you need a sound head?
Posted by Maurizio Di Cintio (Member # 144) on March 15, 2012, 04:05 PM:
The early symptom is usually a strong loss of high frequency output. As wear increases, the gap, a microscopic seam in the head surface, the thinnest part of it, will eventually crack and no sound will be audible any more (just background noise).
The process is much faster with Eumig balance stripe heads (Models 926, 932, 934, 938, 940), because they are really thin and small; in some cases they were so poorly built the permalloy layers they are made of (usually two, for balance) simply split from each other, without actual wear, which made it impossible to use anyway...
Why are you asking?
Keep in mind a dirty/magnetized sound head may give you the impression to require replacement. So first gently clean it with a cotton swab moistened with some isopropil alcohol (never use metal object on or near magnetic heads!). Usually this fill fix the problem. Good luck!

Don't forget lads you can still get Eumig soundheads for your machines and if you would rather.you can have them reprofiled to give them a new lease of life.Reprofiling can be done with any
head thats losing top frequencies and it isn't expensive.

Hello Alex,in answer to your question, yes there are at the following
addresses; SUMMERTONE LTD., WOODSIDE,
98 SCATTERDELLS LANE, CHIPPERFIELD, HERTS WD4 9EZX
Tel; 01923 263220
and also HEAD TECHNOLOGY, 11 BRITTANIA WAY, STANWELL,
STAINES, MIDDX, TW19 7HT
