Does anyone know if the old Columbia (accidentally-scope) 200' sound digest to FIRST MEN IN THE MOON was released on super 8? I have a black and white sound print on Regular 8mm and it's great - but I would rather have it on Super 8 (of course). It's really more of a featurette that really sets up the era the film was coming out with images of JFK and NASA, etc. Anyway if anyone has a super 8 sound print let me know -- that way my search can begin.

Hello Brian,I consulted my old Columbia cats. and in the '73
issue it implies it's available in all formats but doesn't mention
in sound. In the '76 cat. it is conspicuous by it's absence.I do
believe it was released in S/8 snd/col because when I spoke to
Mike Hankin he had one and as far as I know he didn't collect
std 8.I have the same version as you in b/w snd.I can point you
in the direction of a colour copy but it's std 8 silent.

Brian
It was released in S8 B&W sound for sure. I know this because I had a copy of this but sold all my 200' films. Sorry!

Brian,
The "Ultrasonic Sound" listing on the inside rear cover of the 1968 catalog has the 200' version available in both Standard 8mm and Super 8, and either B&W or Color.
I have the 50' color (faded) silent and the sound Standard 8mm B&W 200 footer.

Ahhhh... so there is a 200' super 8 color/sound version. My Columbia catalogue is from 1966 so they didn't even offer Super 8 sound yet! Something else to search for. But I'm sure they are all faded... unless prints were made in the UK later by Mountain Films. I've found that that's the only way to get the Columbia 200'ers with good color is from prints struck overseas.
Hugh - Does the 200' super 8 color/silent print you were mentioning have good color? I would be interested if it's not red.
As for the feature... Larry Arpin was kind enough to sell me his scope Derann print and it's gorgeous... I highly recommend tracking it down if you don't have a print already.
