Half a year ago my GS1200 Xenon started to make disturbing noises appearing form the pick-up motor. It appeared that the gear that drives the rear arm had been broken, a well known problem (see photo).

Well, OK, no problem, since these gears are offered in the catalogs of FFR-film and Wittner in Germany. So I ordered one at FFR film, but they were out of stock (Wittner ditto). I got no answer to my question when they would be available again. Wittner did respond to my question and pointed out the it would take several months.
A month later I bought the beautiful Elmo sleeve form sup8mm on eBay (see http://www.ebay.de/itm/SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH-11-30mm-adapter-ELMO-K100SM-ST600-800-1200-GS800-1200-/160793454041?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_186&hash=item25700965d9 ).
I was very impressed by the precision and craftsmanship of this item, and it worked extremely well right out of the box. Then I saw that he also offered a gear for the Braun Visacustic projector. Since my bad experiences in the past with products “out of stock end dunno when they will be available again” I decided to contact César Ballesteros, the man from Spain behind sup8mm. Although he had never made such a gear before I guessed he would be technically equipped to do so. The communication in English (and in French!) was effective and the main problem he had to solve was the special (free running) bearing that is used. (I don’t know if this is the right descriptions as this is different in every language: German: Freilauf Lager, French: palier de roue libre, etc.). César asked me bet be patient so he could figure out all the problems in the mean time.
Then, within 4 weeks already he emailed me the gears were ready! I was stunned.
Two days ago I received my four gears: 2 sets of front and rear gears for my Xenon and standard GS 1200 projector. First thing that struck me that he managed to find the original bearings used (see photo’s: these are copied form his eBay offering).

I couldn’t wait to replace them: they fitted perfectly. Of course the motor must be aligned carefully with the gear or else the gear can block. I performed various test: projection forward, and reverse, fast rewind etc: everything was flawless. Also the noise was no more than with the original gears.
The front gear of my Xenon projector had already visible cracks so I was glad to have it replaced as well. The original gears of my standard (third generation) GS 1200 provided me with a surprise: they were perfectly OK, the plastic used for all the gears here must be of a different quality: they were much more white of color and totally not discolored whatsoever. Another difference was the quality of the gears of the pick-up and rewind motors: they were made of brass instead of plastic as I my Xenon. I decided to replace them anyway.

Hi , i have some of these gear's if you need one , its a helical cut gear with a clutch bearing inside,depending which you need it for back or front they are identical.I'm waitin on another forum member who is having a problem with his gs 1200 similar symtoms , mine was the gs 1200 xenon too and these machine's were the later model so i expect a few more enquires.All the best to you .
