Hi

I have this projector and would like some advice on lamp replacement please. The bulb I have says it's a Hanimex 8v 50 watt p15s, Japan, and I'd be grateful if someone could tell me what is the modern version I should be buying.

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, however I am trying for the first time to resurrect an old machine to view some old family films.

this is not so easy.I think there is not a modern version of this lamp.
my revue 1000 lux projector needs the same lamp.Here's a visual example:

I would also like to know if i could rebuild the projector to use a modern lamp.
The lamps are available in any case to buy yet, but they are expensive and do not last long.

Here is a link for a retailer in Germany (only for example)im sure you can get this lamp everywhere.

Yes,both will work.

for example:

CXL:

CXR:

im not sure,but i think the CXL is the older one.but both will fit,so you can get the CXR.

i think,the CXR is avaible in the United States.but im not sure.

I think the lamps too expensive.
the old CXL I find interesting because of the metal reflector.
if you could carefully remove the glass, it might be possible to solder a favorable pin base bulb like the Osram HLX ?
theoretically possible ....

8v50w, and I'm currently searching through "Movie Maker" to
give you more details as it had the same bayonet type base.

Hi Alison, I've found the correct lamp for your machine,it's the
replacement for the A1/17 which is the lamp you have at present
the number is A1/263 and that is the correct replacement which
you should be able to get from Perry's Movies,Buckingham Films
Independent 8,Classic Home Cinema or Paul Foster Films.

Hello, late comer to this topic, but with a Sankyo Dualux-1000 Projector in need of a replacement bulb.

I have been reading this thread (and a couple of others) and am I correct in thinking that the CXR A1/17 bulb is still the only direct replacement for the current bulb in this machine?

And, that there is still no LED solution that can replace it directly (without using an external power source)?

I'd say there will be no direct (without external power supply) LED replacement as most LED lamp units are made to work off 12v and the A1/17 or A1/263 are 8v lamps, so there is no 12v supply from the projector's transformer. You'd need a rectifier and smoothing as well I would imagine if you did try to make one up from individual small LED capsules as used in torches.

In the UK the A1/17 are now so expensive no, one will import them, however I had been using the Ushio CXL/CXR INC 8volt-5oW

I`m sure if you google it you will get a hit. Otherwise do as I have & get yourself a Sankyo 2000H much the same but a better Projector & cheap lamps. Here`s a link to lamps.

I agree with James. Get a projector that uses the newer inexpensive lamps. With all due respect to Myron's nice kit, you can find a Sankyo 2000H for less than what the kit costs.

Thank all for your suggestions. For the moment, I have ordered a replacement bulb for the 1000 from a seller in the Netherlands that has turned out somewhat cheaper than anywhere else I have seen. For the longer term, in case I find that I am involved in doing more 8mm conversion work, I will look into getting a Dualux-2000.

Appreciate that shot. Quite as I imagined it, seeing your other input showing your work.

Are you still using a 110-Volt power source? That, of course, adds another item in the mix for down here, would need to run it off a step-down transformer since we are 220.

And what is your current price for one of the adaptor kits?

Steve, I get $185.00 USD, and if international, buyer pays for shipping and all taxes, which comes to another 50 or 60 USD. Steve go to http://www.dvds2envy.com and click on the bulb replacemnt tab. Since that video there have been a few improvements, such as a heat sensor installed, in case operator forgets to turn off the LED, the heat sensors opens the circuit and shuts the machine down. Also installed is is a larger on/off lamp. I just finished a 5,000 foot film job, went fantastic, no problems at all.

I also have four brand new still in the box CXL/CXR 8v 50w bulbs for sale, in US only. For use with the Sankyo 1000. I'm asking $90.00 for all 4 bulbs, as I have no use for them with the LED. In the US only will pay shipping.

Hello to all who were following this topic. Thought I would pass along a solution I have found to this bulb problem. I have bought a Jetbeam HR25 LED head lamp which fits in the bulb area of the Sankyo projector. It puts out 800 lumins (about the same as a 50 watt bulb) and as added bonuses puts out less heat than the original bulb (better for the film) AND recharges via a USB connection to my PC. All in all a really good solution I find. The headlamp itself (plus postage and including a headstrap) came to less than $70.00 USD. Here is a link for a retailer in the US that sells it

Janice .... would like to, but the forum's photo upload restrictions are frustrating! If you check out the link, you will see that the headlamp itself (which includes the recharageable battery) is in the shape of a letter "T" ... with the vertical portion abbreviated (this is where the headlamp lens is). When you have the lamp out of the headband, you can stand it on its end with the LED lamp facing almost exactly the same light port/gate that the original lamp shines through and onto the film.

Here are Steves photos showing the placement of the LED light in his Sankyo 1000 projector. There are several other projectors that use the "spaceman" bulb...such as the Keystone 2500, Chinon 2500GL, Chinon Whisper 727, Bell & Howell 10MS, and the Bell & Howell 20XS.

If you have the Windows "Paint" program on your PC, open the photo in it. Go to Resize" and click on "Pixels". For width, type in 545. Save your picture. The pixel width limit for Forum posts is 550 so you should be good to go.

Thanks, Barry, will try that next time .... Janice did a workaround for one of the shots I was trying to post.

Further regarding it ... as can be seen, the headlamp just sits in the space where the original lamp would have gone. It could be further stabilized by sitting it in something like a "blu-tac" seat at the base if it was necessary. However, up to now I have not seen much vibration with my projector when it is turned on so the headlamp assembly sits fairly stable.

Advantages are that you don't have to feel the bulb is going to blow out any second (something which I found happened with the replacement lamp I got recently) and the much reduced heat problem. It also requires not external power supply.

Interesting post, Steve. Jetbeam have a website in the UK but don't seem to list the HR25 so I've emailed them. There's one on e-Bay for £35.99 (about $51). However, the Jetbeam UK website warns that they've found examples of counterfeit Jetbeam products so take care folks.

For information .... I picked up the Jetbeam from this online store in the US http://www.andrew-amanda.com/ Even with shipping to Australia it was less than $70.00 USD. In new packaging, etc. The unit seems the real thing, certainly appears well built (has a good solid feel to it, which is partly why it appears to sit quite well (solidly) in the projector unit.

The company also responds quickly to email queries.

Looking at the Jetbeam UK site, the last update was 4 years ago and so I don't think I'll get a reply to my email! Does the LED work when the battery is being charged?

Yes, it does work when it is charging. I am not sure about the UK site .... the folks at "Andrew and Amada.com" (noted above) reply promptly to queries however.

Oops .... clarification ..... the JetBeam HR25 does NOT operate while it is charging .... I seemed to remember that it did when asked that question. However, I just tried it now and it doesn't. Which is fine for what I am using the headlamp for (short films). Hope this clarifies .....

Just an update .... have now used the Jetbeam LED headlamp in transferring several hours of 8 mm film to digital video tape in preparation of copying that over to my hard drive.

The lamp works really well and the result is quite acceptable.
