Predator would be my choice. It is stunning; my favorite one to show to people who ask why I would pay so much to buy a feature on Super 8.

Apart from it being a very gripping film, one of the main reasons for buying Predator is the absoulate stunning Derann print, said to be the best 'flat' release from Derann. As soon as I bought it I applied Cresclean to it (didnt have filmguard at the time) and watched a reel each night and noted down on the box how good it was. Later I then put it on 2 elmo 1200ft reels. There is a review of this very film in the revalent section.
I certaintly wouldnt have bought it if it was a poor print like the little mermaid. Theres no point in spending a lot for a poor super 8 release.

"Hoppity Goes to Town", twice at the sme time! Steve Osbourbe offered me both an LPP Derann print and an AGFA Red Fox Films Print, both with excellent color and from different film labs with two very different results!

My economics aren't too favorable to buying brand new features, so a couple of Christmasses back when I'd found out my wife bought me a new print of "Toy Story" it was a great moment!
It's something I'd wanted to get for years and I always imagined I'd find a mint print used someday, never new.
It had an unexpected side-effect too. When the package showed up I found out I'd accidentally been sent a brand new print of "Hunchback of Notre Dame". Other than the dissapointment, It was kind of like a latter day rental!
I sent that print back to Derann and watched the used lists for months: never saw it. I'm not sure if I got somebody else's film, or they just printed the wrong film to my order.

In Super 8...I was most excited to get Alien in scope and stereo. That was just a couple of years ago. But the MOST ever excited was in my early 16mm collecting days in the early 70's..when I finally got a wonderful 16 print of King Kong, my favorite film since I was a child.

ZORRO'S FIGHTING LEGION,because it thrilled me to no end when I first saw it as a young boy, and it still does,just the same! GONE WITH THE WIND and 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY (in scope). Two big (and most expensive) classics I adore and managed to get at most competitive prices!

Night of the Living Dead. I bought it in 1978 when it was first available. Before that I only heard about it from friends who saw it in the drive-in. By the time I got my print it was already a cult classic. Pretty cool that the first time I ever saw this film was my super 8 feature

RETURN OF THE JEDI. My favorite Star Wars movie. The S8 print is an absolute joy with fantastic color and a nice , sharp picture.

I'll have to agree with Patrick, tho my Raise the Titanic is 4:3 with optical sound but the print has glorious colour and contrast with very good sound.

Such wonderful Titles! Aren't we fortunate that they were printed in Super 8mm? I thought about including 16mm, but that deserves its own thread.

It is hard to narrow it down....I would have to say DEMENTIA 13 as this is a cool film and I was surprised to find it on super 8.

Very hard to pick just one but I'll opt for 'Aliens', as it provides more enjoyment than any of my other contenders, as it lasts 2 hrs 17 mins! It seemed almost too good to be true when it was released and 'Alien' fans should note that 'Aliens' came first on S8 (in relation to features). So 'Alien' was released because its sequel sold well!

Just one?! Well, I guess it would be "It's A Wonderful Life". It's a NILES print and it's really on the dark side and the sound is typical NILES quality (a bit high on the bass and a tad low with some hiss in the background), but I'm still glad I have it. When I can afford a nice print on 16mm then I'll sell the one I have. The prints I have seen on 16mm always go for more than I'm willing to invest, but I'm patient. There's always an estate sale popping up on EBAY and often this is how I normally get great titles that typically go for big money and I luck out winning them for a terrific price.

MY ALL TIME BEST ! Was FORBIDDEN PLANET 4 X 600 reel super 8 mm feature. Clean fantastic color Blu-ray quality! Wow1 I can die now and go to heaven. But I will miss Robby.

Brad, I have a Niles print of It's a Wonderful Life too. The sound problems you mention are more on the first reel and not so much on the others. Also, the picture is grainier than normal throughout. Is Niles the only one to have released this?

Reel Images also sold prints of "It's A Wonderful Life" and supposedly they are excellent. I know for certain they sold 16mm prints of it.

Ashkay, Joe is correct. I, too, have heard that the prints from Reel Images (based out of Connecticut, USA) are much nicer in both formats. I know other companies also released IAWL on Super 8. Two that come to mind are HOLLYWOOD FILM EXCHANGE and IVY FILMS. I haven't seen nor heard anything negative about their prints. Being that it was a public domain title for nearly 50 years after Capra's Liberty Films went under, I'm sure many companies world-wide released it. A few years ago, Paramount purchased the music rights and now have sole ownership of the movie.

The IVY FILM release may have used a Original Negative struck for Television. I believe the Reel Images preprint material was a excellent 35mm print. I cannot remember reading any reviews of IVY FILM's print; but I do remember reading that the Reel Images release was Excellent. Generally, IVY FILM worked with Original Television Negatives; many from the NTA Library.

When Niles worked with Original Negatives, the resultant prints were more often than not excellent. But when they worked with other preprint materials, the results varied wildly. They had on some Titles a License from the Copyright holder, so had access to a Original Negative.
