Not that I really "need" another projector but I always take an interest if it is in my local market. I found a Bolex Paillard 18-5 8mm projector for sale. Excellent clean running condition. The seller is asking quite a bit for it; certainly more than I would be willing to pay but I always consider making offers. I love the retro look and design of this unit and would be very happy to have it but I can't afford to pay retail prices lol.

I know Bolex is considered a cadilac name when it comes to photographic equipment; does that apply to projectors as well?

Anyone have an opinion on a fair value for this projector? What would you pay for this unit? Did a quick search and didn't find an answer.

Also; just added a B&H 462 to the collection last weekend and it runs great!

I have a Bolex 18-5L which is the Super 8 version that I upgraded to a halogen lamp. It's a silent projector and goes at one speed only (forward and reverse). I like the projector as it is a reliable well built Swiss made machine with a bright light and great lens. Projectors are old machines but for me the Bolex operates as if new. I'd offer the guy 30 bucks for the projector tops as it's Standard 8mm, and I'd go as high as 40 if it is operating well. make sure there's a power cord for it, they are not easy to find. Bulbs are about 16 clams. These projectors are always being sold on ebay, so you can czek prices from there too.

I think $30 or $40 is a very good price considering you are not paying shipping. Shipping for that heavy projector would add at least another $20 to $30. Also make sure that everything is working, bulb, cord, motor, switch, etc. If not that will reduce the value considerably. The lowest price I paid for an 8mm 18-5 was $25 and everything was working when I tested it. I have sold them in working condition for as much as $50.

I agree with the prices stated above and would add that this projector is one of the finest and easiest made. Be aware there are 8mm and Super 8mm versions. Also, they have two speeds, 18 and 5 fps, contrary to what is stated above.

great info! the seller is asking a stupid price; $200 lol, but I'm going to email him and offer fair market value for it and see what he thinks.

Got another offer today for a B&H 253R for $50....not sure about this one.

Do do have to be realistic about this.....how many projectors do I really "need" afterall? 1? 5? 10? lol....I already have 6 and I only have one 8mm film lol.....will probably pass on both of these machines since the sellers want more than I am really willing to pay.....

Barry is right, I made a mistake. The Bolex runs 5 frames p/s and 18 fps but not 24fps.

Tony- I made a mistake as well in saying the CXR bulb is 16 dollars. That was for my CZX bulb for the M8. Jesse Chambless sells the CXR for 23 dollars at his Bolex supply and repairs shop in Georgia.
