I have been asked more than once recently where a Super 8 collector can purchase a serviced/reconditioned or at least thoroughly tested Elmo GS 1200.

What are the options outside of the ebay lottery? I don't doubt that solid projectors are available there, but certainly there are some wrecks too.

I also read in The Reel Image about reconditioned Beaulieu 708's from Germany, anyone had experience with these?

In Italy the first name that comes to my mind is Ugo Grassi: he is a member of this forum and you can probably get in touch with him using the PM service of the forum. I own three Elmo GS 1200 (one Xenon) reconditioned by him and I must say he did an amazing job on all three. He is a dedicated person, he has a real knack for this machine which he knows thouroughly inside out. There is probably no problem he is unable to solve. His work standards are extremely high and it's not just about craftsmanship but also about what I could term as "industrial philology" aimed at restororing each machine that goes through his hands, to its original appearance with performances/specs that (at least) match the original ones and sometimes exceeds them.
I've never seen anybody working on something with such dedication. Therefore I highly reccommend him.

This forum's very Ugo Grassi reconditions GS1200 machines. I got a GS1200 xenon from him and was thoroughly impressed (still am actually) with the quality of his work. This machine performs as if it just left the factory. In fact Ugo tells me that in some aspects, it performs even beyond the original specs. Especially where steadiness in the gate is concerned.

On the other hand, owning also a Beaulieu 708 machine, I would like to learn who is reconditioning those in Germany. As I don't have The Reel Image, was there an article in there or only some mentioning? Anyone care to share this info or send a scan ?

Ten years ago Wittner Cinetec of Germany cleared out the contents of the French Beaulieu factory.

I know from previous dealings with them that they speak excellent English so I suggest an email to them might be an opener as to what they still have.

One question, are all GS 1200 projectors able to run on 230v 50hz or just those sold in Europe?

I know some must be as the GS1200 was sold here too.

From my inspection to all Elmo products, they come with multi voltage transformers (I think it is between 100- 250v).

Some are:

- installed with a multi voltage, so it is easily inter-changeable between the desired voltage. So we call it a multi voltage machine
- having that multi voltage selector but it does not have a window glass to show what is the voltage currently set. So we consider it as single voltage machine. But we actually still can do the one described above.
- not having that selector but the transformer is a multi voltage ones. Therefore you need to re-wire this for your desired voltage.

I remember a forum member here who had a GS1200 Xenon in the UK. I asked if it was multi voltage and he removed the back and said it was only for the UK/Europe.
And Mr. Norris our US Elmo tech told me that he had only one transformer left at 110V but Elmo also made one for 240/220V.
That being said I had one of the models with the little window and my current GS does not have the window but can be multi voltage if you take off the back cover and rewire.
I'm pretty sure they are not all Multi. Or maybe the Xenons were not?
