Does any member know the origins of the Calamity Jane Promo Reel?

My copy is in its original 400' white box with a black & white photo copy stuck-on cover, it says printed in USA.

The film is approximately 350' on beautiful LPP stock. It seems to combine the original trailer for its opening and closing, but in between it has most of the film's song and dance numbers.

Good Morning Maurice,
I also have a print of the Calamity Jane promo, and it has the exact same content that you have described. Mine is a fairly good print, if somewhat grainy, and there is no color fade at all. I am not sure when it was printed, but I have had my print about 20 years. My particular print seems to have quite severe negative scratching of Doris's Windy City number. It's a lively and enjoyable reel, and Doris's rendition of Secret Love is beautiful. A great collectors item.

I believe this reel was a clever attempt to create the impression that it was a promo, but in reality there was no such reel and it was assembled specifically to produce a Super 8 release!

Mine is in a 400ft Movieola Series box with Derann printed description at the bottom.

In issue #10 of COMING ATTRACTIONS from the end of 1983 there is an ad for Derann and the Calamity Jane Promo is listed as a new release.

I was just leafing through some old Derann flyers and "Calamity Jane Promo" is listed as a Steel Valley import through Derann's Movieola catalogue. It was selling for 33.99 (UK pounds). This was around 1988 and described as "Not a behind the scenes documentary but a potted version of the film itself".

Graham, I watched my print a few weeks ago. I don't recall significant print damage.I will have to watch it again. Which parts are affected?

I seem to recall that one of the songs had some bad scratching near left of centre frame. Obviously from its master which must have come from a different source from the rest of the reel.
