I notice a number of Super 8 films being advertised on 800 and 1200ft reels. Were these films originally sold in these sizes, or have they been spliced together by a previous owner. An original 2 reel 35mm film when reduced to 8mm was 400ft. Some projectors were only able to hold 400ft, while others, by means of a lever, could swing up the take up arm and accommodate 600. I know of the Elmo which holds 1200ft, but if films were put out in these lengths it must have restricted the sale somewhat.

Hi Robert. I may be wrong but as far as i'm aware, 600ft reels were the largest size put out by any super 8 companies. I have a few Laurel and Hardy's on 1200ft, including "Sons of the Desert" but these are Blackhawk prints the previous owner spliced together.

hi! robert ,jonathan is right ,all the features are spooling in 400ft or 600ft,because it,s the capacity for the most projectors, they are also projectores who are available to take 1200 or 2400ft,meperso«naly i have all my features moutend in 1200ft,beacuse it,s easy to clean, run a film with out need to change reels several times, and take less room to storage, some collectores preferer to keep their films in several original reels they say it,s fun to change reels, and if you like to watch
certain scene you just have to pick up the reel who contain what you whant to see with out running the all film...
