One of the things I LOVE about this hobby (scratch that ... PASSION), is that I tend to see something I never knew existed on super 8 and in this case, didn't even know existed period ...

I didn't even know that there was a 1979 version of the 1930's classic!

I had that film and found it very boring. So I sold it.

Try to find the old classic. It's ,well,a classic! Still, most impressive today.

I have the original version on Super 8. Great classic science fiction film. The remake was utter garbage.

I bought the recent Blu Ray release of the original film. I found it pretty hard going. There is of course a lot of footage missing from current release versions.

I remember sitting through this film when it was shown on TV
must've been the late '70s, and slowly losing the will to live.
Someone was selling this for a very high price in the UK.

It brings to mind Arthur C Clarke when he recommended Stanley Kubrik see that film when they were planning the production of 2001.
From his diary at that time:

December l0. Stanley calls after screening H. G. Wells' Things to Come, and says he'll never see another movie I recommend.

I have the original on 16mm. It's a bit of a bore at times but it's certainly worth watching.

It's certainly worth watching once, I suppose, if only to ensure one doesn't make the same mistake again.

According to that box, it looks like the makers of that remake borrowed heavily from Disney's "The Black Hole" for their robot, (Hey, not that Disney didn't borrow some for they're design).

Osi, it should have been put in a black hole.

(haha) ..

Both films?

Ya know ... if it wasn't for those two cartoony robots, I would have been able to get into the Black Hole more than I did, but those damned robots screwed it up for me, which is too bad, as there were some pretty good special effects to the film too ...

the "dante's inferno' ending didn't help too much. Apparantly to Disney, Black Holes hold the bowels of hell in them! [Big Grin]

No honestly,Osi, I quite enjoyed "The Black Hole",it wasn't "Star Wars"
but was light years better than "Shape of Things".
