I just finished this conversion on my B&W Filmsound. This is an easy one. Take the back off the projector, remove the 2 screws that hold the socket and metal base. Drill out one mounting hole to fit wires through. Then drill 2 holes to mount the socket w/mount. I used wire nuts to connect the wires. Done! Now it costs 12.99 for a ESD halogen bulb vs DJL 60.00!

Did you remove the old socket or did you just bend in the socket skirt tangs?

Today a friend of mine gave me a Sears Du-All 8 (made by Bell & Howell) and after testing...it runs fine...only the bulb is burned out. This looks like a good candidate for a conversion since it too uses the DJL bulb. The hardest part for me so far has been removing the 11 little 3/16" hex head screws on the front to get the back off. So far I've only been able to remove 7 screws. They are recessed just enough that it's difficult to get the nut driver to grip the head of the screw. It doesn't look like the Filmosound you converted had as many screws..Did you have any trouble getting them out?

After visiting their website http://www.tvedenlampmodules.com they now have the bulbs with the DJL Socket combined. You don't need to rip out the old socket. I will purchase this very soon, because I still have 2 DJL Bulbs left.

Yes Jerome, George makes and sells the DJL adapter, but it is $75. I think that is a fair price since it includes the bulb. However, for my needs I'm choosing the frugal approach [Smile]

I removed the socket by removing just 2 screws. I actually enlarged one of the holes to run the wires through.

75.00 is too much money when you consider the parts are only 23.00.

Jan you might need a pair on mini vice grips for the screw of just drill it out.

Good suggestion Hugh. I might try cutting a slot in the top of the screw with my Dremel.

I have never had a problem getting those small screws out, if you have a small 1/4" socket that is tapered enough to fit the 3/16" screw try and look at your local sears craftsman sets or if you already have one try a grind the end of it down more.

I finally got the last four screws out by grabbing the head of the screw with kneedle-nose pliers.
