Hey all, I did some googling and couldn't find an answer on this. Or do any of these exist a longer digests ie 3x400?

Planet of the Apes (or any of the sequels)
Island of Lost Souls

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I know there is a really bad Italian print of Few Dollars More. How bad is it though? I would totally get it if it's just faded and needs a re-record.

Any of those aforementioned exist as trailers?

Citizen Kane exists on super 8. I don't know for the others but there is a topic with two long lists of films existing on super 8 on the forum. I cannot copy and past but it is quite recent.

Most of those do, but most are pirate prints, ( a lot of these you can find in Italy). Some were released legally.

Beware the 4X400ft version of Citizen Kane, edited. best to get the full feature!

Derann released Rocky (full feature) and The Great Escape (2x400' Flat & Scope). Walton put out Monty Python and the Holy Grail (2x400'). I wish there were longer versions of the Apes films out there, aside from the Ken Films 200 footers.

Ernie, the only one that I don't think exists on any super 8 format (except perhaps as a trailer) is "Breakfast At Tiffanys", which is tragic, just to see lovely Audrey singing "Moon River" would be worth the price of admission!

Does anyone know if this was at least released as digest somewhere?

Also, "Monty Python" was released as an optical sound super 8 feature, but VERY RARE!

I wouldn't rule out the "Apes" films having made in onto optical super 8, but if they have I WANT EM!

Cool thanks! I've always wondered about optical prints. They seem to be so hard to come by. What was their intended purpose? Were they meant for consumers? If so, who released them?

All the "Dollars" films were released on s/8 in Italy, as was"Spartacus", which I have.

Optical sound features were for the airlines in flight movies. A few 200ft and 400ft were released in the UK. Pathe Pics Trailer reel a John Wayne 400ft and I think Disney had a 200ft at one time.

For the dealers it was never a great success. When some of the airline prints were sold the titles were a very good selection.

I think that the first two Dollar films were on 2x400ft in Germany?

The print on most of my optical prints is in most cases very good.

Ernie, the thread is "AFI's 100 years of films 100 films on super 8". I think that the optical films were mainly used in the planes but I have few informations about it.

David's correct on the "Dollars" films, Fistful was a 1x400 &
Few Dollars More a 2x400, but the Italians released all three
full length. On Spartacus, the colour is acceptable.These being
mag/sound prints. The optical
prints in the main Ernie, were excellent, fine grain filmstock,
and the colour in some cases stunning.A lot of them have faded
by now, but outstanding in my collection are "The Big Sleep"
"Pale Rider", "Death On The Nile", "City Heat", "The Lady Vanishes" etc, all with beautiful vivid colour.
"Monty Python & the Holy Grail" is available on Opt. sound feature length.

I don't have the time to go into a long series of posts about my passion (optical super 8, as I have well over 60 features in that format), but there have been a number of very good posts on the subject.

Could Doug or someone else make a link to some of those great posts?
