Great to see Claus in the photo.....stories please?

Good looking group guys! Wish I could be there to add a little feminine diversity ...AND that hamburger looks really good!
Posted by Dominique De Bast (Member # 3798) on October 06, 2013, 02:29 AM:
The food looks typically american, lol. What about the number of sellers and visitors ? Did you notice any change (good or bad) comparing with the last edition ?
Posted by Steve Klare (Member # 12) on October 06, 2013, 06:39 AM:
It would be great to see you there, Janice!
I don't believe there is an "official count", but I would say we have slightly more people than the last time including at least two new ones from this Forum: Joe Taffis and Pat DAlessio.
It's a very active room: a lot of conversation going on and something like five screens lit up. When you need a break you just walk out the door and the boardwalk and the beach are right across the road.
As far as the food, it's no time to be on a diet! The event puts you in a good mood and you feel like indulging a little when the menus are passed around!
Posted by Vidar Olavesen (Member # 3354) on October 06, 2013, 07:13 AM:
Stupid question ... Isn't those wrinkles in the screen gonna show a lot?
Have fun guys, in a few weeks it's Ealing for me and look forward to it immensely
Posted by Steve Klare (Member # 12) on October 06, 2013, 07:31 AM:
Stupid(er?) answer: No.
The screen isn't fully set up in that picture. Later on we extended it up to the ceiling and allowed the folded lower half to fall down and hang under its own weight.
Generally if there are some wrinkles in the surface they fade out of sight as you back away from the screen once a picture is there.

Any event like with films and projectors around is probably worth to attend to. If it was not the distance I am sure many of us would have loved to be there.
Posted by Guy Taylor, Jr. (Member # 786) on October 06, 2013, 10:11 AM:
It was a great time for all who attended. We would love to see more people from the USA and Canada as well as our friends from Europe and beyond.

Brilliant....did anyone go on the roller coaster?
Full report please

The amusements parks were closed because it was off season. We watched an excellent 800' reel of Son Of Frankenstein, A mix of of old promo's and shorts that Steve Osborne sent up. A nice of Airport, cartoons, and a bunch of other stuff. Doug has a better memory than me. Definitely worth the trip. I hope more collectors make it in April.

Oh, it's a twice a year event, nice !
Posted by Steve Klare (Member # 12) on October 06, 2013, 07:42 PM:
The hotel and Lou Franchetti usually settle on a date, but for the moment we're still putting the stuff away from this one!
Last year's Spring convention was late April, though.
Posted by Douglas Meltzer (Member # 28) on October 06, 2013, 09:36 PM:
Pat, Great photos. Thank you!
There are a couple of amusement parks further down the boardwalk. Morey's Landing Pier Amusement was open on Saturday from 11-9. I'm sorry we kept you away from it!
I had an amazing time. Thanks to everyone who joined in on the fun this weekend.
This isn't a complete list, but the screening started with the From Russia With Love trailer, courtesy of Gary Crawford. That was followed by the 16mm Castle Son of Frankenstein. Steve Osborne sent a great collection of theater opening animations, promos and a fun long trailer for the 1966 Batman feature. He also sent a knockout excerpt of the color sequence from 1934's Kid Millions. There was a gorgeous 16mm print of Buccaneer Bunny and the second stop motion trailer reel released by Larry Arpin. Steve Klare brought his print of the Blackhawk prevue reel Movies that Talk and Sing. Gary also contributed Clark & McCullough in the hilarious Odor in the Court.
Universal 8's scope digest of Airport looked great on the big screen.
I believe 2013 has been officially designated "The Year of Konga", so we had to screen the Ken Films' classic cutdown.
The screening lasted till almost 1 AM, finishing with Fred Astaire dancing on the ceiling from Royal Wedding.

CineSea has given me a good problem! I bought two features from Guy Taylor. Rather than finish one and then watch the other I'm alternating reels and kind of watching...both.
The net result is Laurel and Hardy meets Irving Berlin!
For the first time I had one of the rooms on the East side with a balcony overlooking the beach.
-kinda nice!
Posted by Joe Caruso (Member # 11) on October 07, 2013, 06:07 AM:
...and those nice notes from Doug about breakfast, and the character voices from me and the questions about Blackhawk which no one asked, and the...hey are you telling ME? - Shorty

They are fab pictures!
Thanks for the Konga nod Doug, yup 2013 is global Konga year and nice to see him getting a screening. If the suit arrives in time Konga will be appearing in person at Blackpool but don’t tell anyone will you folks. He.
Posted by Joe Taffis (Member # 4) on October 07, 2013, 07:28 PM:
KONGA was just one of the highlights for me. We also enjoyed Doug's "one of a kind" super 8 *SOUND* digests of I WAS A TEENAGE FRANKENSTEIN, FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE SPACE MONSTER, and WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH. All of the super 8mm and 16mm prints looked and sounded awesome! It was a great weekend!

Great pics, Pat; here's some from me.
We arrived in Wildwood to balmy winds, 79-degree weather and this, in the first week of October: people tanning and swimming.
The weather plus the extension of some activities in Wildwood made for the best possible way to start off our gathering:
As soon as the tables were set up, the festivities began.
Many great displays were laid out:
Of course, in no time, the "eternal hunt" was underway :
Mr. Crawford provided, in addition to his usual excellent prints, the luxury of fresh Bonum reels:
Pat grabbed the "Airyflex" to immortalize it all:
More a bit later; I am at the limit of picture uploads in one go.
Claus.

I'm so Cine-Sad I couldn't make this one.
These past few weeks our department (Forensics/DC Police) has been overwhelmed with work because of all of the recent events here. Had to work lots of overtime and very little free time. I really missed you guys & was hoping to meet Pat and Joe Taffis this time around.
Glad you all had a great time, with great weather too! Hope to see you at the next one.
As always, thanks for the great pictures everyone.
We should all take up a collection to fly Jannice over from Cali for the next one. Like she said- the CineSea definately needs some feminine diversity. ( I think my wife visiting last time may have been the only feminine diversity we've ever had at the event) .
James.

Thank you; glad you enjoy the pictures. On we go.
As per tradition, one table was dedicated to remembrance and appreciation. Without John, we wouldn't be coming to Wildwood twice a year:
When it came to film selection, Lou and his son led the pack with groaning tables (as always ):
The condensations were out in force too, with something for everyone:
...unless you love John Travolta and want the whole thing:
The fine vintage machinery in use was a pleasure all its own.
This Bell and Howell pretty well sums up "built to last":
You knew it was coming....the Capazzo Espresso Bar. It wouldn't be the same without it:
A quick cup and then a few more pics....

GREAT Picture of Pat with his "camera"!

Nice photos, Claus.
How many attendees this year?
Posted by Steve Klare (Member # 12) on October 08, 2013, 12:48 PM:
We had 19 to dinner Saturday night: this was at least most of us.
Now, this is not a cast of thousands, but there were enough that there was a lot of activity.
Even more important: there is room to grow.
By the way, there is no harm in bringing families to CineSea. I brought my 10 year old last year and he had a great time!
-he wound up doing "Who's on First?" in his school talent show as a result, too!
Even if you have some surly 15 year old that wants no part of Dad's movies. There is still the boardwalk and the beach and the activity that's been in town every time we've been there.

May I type in a few choice words to one member, our tremendously gifted moderator Doug Meltzer, who keeps us all in-line and informed, without his knowledge and skill, I'd still be asking; "What time is Breakfast?" - Dougie you're truly a great person, proud to call one of my truly great friends - Take it from Shorty
Posted by Claus Harding (Member # 702) on October 08, 2013, 03:19 PM:
With us suitably caffeinated, the films rolled on:
...as did the stories:
Doug's "museum table" showcased the design trend towards TV-style mini 8mm film-viewers:
...Eumig designing this ambitious large-screen model:
We were treated to some older film-prep gear along with, of all things, a Krasnogorsk wind-up film camera, the sturdy Russian work-horse for so many years:
You never know what shows up in Wildwood :
That's the picture limit for the moment; I have a few more to conclude.
Claus.

It is obvious that you all had good time. This event seems to be half cine convention and half holiday (or week-end break). The place seems very nice indeed.
Posted by Steve Klare (Member # 12) on October 08, 2013, 04:10 PM:
It is exactly that!

Thank you, Pat, the feeling is definitely mutual; hope to see you again in the spring.
A beautiful woman in a killer print...makes it hard to tear yourself away, but we had to eat at some point:
...so off we rolled to the Boathouse (well, Gary Crawford and I got there eventually, as you heard )
A little overlap with Pat's pictures, but what the heck, a good time is a good time. Excellent seafood, desserts and companionship:
After dinner, the traditional late screening began back at the hotel.
Shorts, promos, special reels sent in by Steve Osborne...talk about a visual horn o' plenty!
As the fog enveloped the beach Sunday morning, the packing began.
We had, as usual, managed to cram as much into the week-end as we could.
The wistfulness of leaving was offset by the feeling of concentrated fun we had had.
Folks, please check your schedules early.
Push things around well in advance, if you can.
Come join us, you will not regret it.
I have yet to hear of a single individual who has attended who was disappointed, quite the opposite...
See you at CineSea 9.
Claus.
