Transferring a few old 8mm films and on some of them it gets to a point where it starts jumping and I can't adjust the frame at all to settle it back down. Once I rewind it and try again the problem usually clears up. Any idea what is causing this?

Seems to me your films need lubrication.

Get liquid to clean film that also works to lubricate. Google for Filmrenew.

This type of topic has been discussed here for many many times.

check your film in that area for bad splices or torn sprockets these will sometimes cause jumping to start if so splice out the bad section with either tape or cement but when you lubricate them the tape may come loose so lube it first.
